Crying, tears rolling down my face. I wish I were free like that. It's been so hard lately and to remember my buddy Rudy in his prime when this was filmed. I lost him several months ago. My folks split up and my dad doesn't talk to me anymore. I need time in the mountains I need time with my memories of Rudy and a simpler time.

Sorry it's so hard. I will keep you in my thoughts. When I lost my last pup, I felt adrift. Finally a friend suggested I get another pup. Though I felt angry, it was the best decision. A man needs a dog, and though the new one won't replace the old, there's just a spot in your heart and soul that needs that unwavering love/loyalty that only a dog can bring. Things will get better. The memories of Rudy should be a positive. That dog loved you. Remember that.

I stumbled across this video, it was wonderful. Then I see two years ago that your dog moved on to his spiritual journey. It's so sad they don't last forever with us here, but at least the two of you met up to love and have adventures that few of us so lucky to have. For all we know, they may come back to us again in this lifetime or another like angels sent teach and love us. I wish you well and hope that the dark chapter of losing him has opened to a new and bright chapter in your journey.

Doggo at 20mph and then chilling in the trailer had me both laughing and crying with that amazing track playing (I used to watch "Cars" a lot when my children were small). I felt the freedom of the road calling to me. It was an inspired choice of music and wonderful footage of doggo. One year ago I started cycling again "properly" - as in daily. I'm up to 4000 miles so far this year and whole reason is so that I am fit enough to try something like you have here. I have a trailer too - now I just need to find a dog who will join me. My search begins at the local shelters.

We biked California with our two dogs back in the summer of 2012. I don't think a lot of people realize just how fulfilling bike riding with a dog can be, not only for you, but for the dog! :)

I'm obsessed with this idea, biking across the country with your dog either riding or running! I was just wondering what kind of equipment is used. For the trailer I'm guessing a dog trailer and I think he put some of his stuff in there as well but I was wondering, how did he attach his dog? At times it seems like his dogs in front of him and other times his dog is beside him, maybe he used a walkydog or bikemydog attachment with a stretchy leash so it could extend? Or maybe somehow his leash was retractable?

I saw this video many years ago when I first started watching videos on KZbin, and I never forgot it as I've always loved biking and dogs. I just stumbled across it today as I just purchased a dog trailer for my Skye. We'll be going back home to Rhode Island in November, and while I will be driving up there, there will definitely be plenty of biking together along the way. It was wonderful to see this video again today after all these years.

EPIC! I've been thinking about cross country with my 2 dogs. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration! Any other suggestions would be awesome. My younger 4 yr. old yellow Lab is a rocket ship and the older dog Luna fit, but not much of a runner any more. It would have to happen in the next year or two. Dreams happen; right? awesome man! biking this long of a trip require a lots of pacience ,I can imagen. I rode my motorcycle from chile to vancouver canada last year. I thought that it was a big deal until I saw bicycle riders in the patagonia, south and central america. Rider were from europe, australia americans riding from alaska to Usuashia argentina,some with their kids in little trailers like your. I have a lot respect for you and all long distance riders. I bought a doggie hut trailer on ebay in the UK for £72 new delivered to the front door. and Charlie cowboy pants a cross border collie x springer spaniel doesn't like it so he jumpos out and runs all day. so ive resorted to treats to lure him in . the base is only material so im going to put light plastic sheet down and foam bed above. it will help Charlie settle down. we have a problem here in Devon England the old historical roads are like 500 years old no pavements and the problem is the hedges are right up against a single road up steep hills so you will hold up the traffic and the gold bus and pretty soon the yuppies patience will run out and they may give u the finger. once we safely reach Plymouth we can ride the ferry to France an then the velio pad all the way down the west coast of france to Spain tour around there then catch the ferry back to "old blighty "(UK) from the Spanish port of santander

Great video! I want to try this with my own dog, although not cross country. I have a slew of questions. What kind of trailer did you use and does you dog normally just jump out of the trailer to start running along side it? How is you dog tethered to bike? How did you train your dog not to run on the left side, thus possibly getting hit by a vehicle?

if ur going on hills with narrow paths you might not want to take a trailer for your dog as it will be hard to manuever but there is also large baskets

That was great. 90 percent dog; 10 percent humans. I would love to take my dog with me but being mostly Great Pyrenees, he is too lazy. Might be good for the occasional downhill sprint but that would be it.

How come your dogs feet dont get burned from the concrete? If I bike with my dog on concrete his paws get raw after a while.

He might be putting musher's miracle or cow udder cream on the pads to prevent cracking and soreness from running. Or just not letting him run too long. :x Just my thought on that. Both products I mentioned are good for tender paws.

I don`t like seeing Kaibab running along side you on dangerous roads and corners even if he is on the inside. A high risk of accidents, you`ve been very lucky up to now, hope your luck lasts out. Seeing him drinking out of the lake tells me he risks dehydration as I never saw you giving him a drink of water during the whole journey.
