Biking on Sanibel Island

This video shows what it's like to bike on Sanibel Island. The island has some great bike paths and great beaches. I biked over from my house in Fort Myers Beach. I rode a Giant e-bike to three of the main beaches.

Thanks for the beautiful adventure! It was a great help in preparing for our upcoming 50th wedding anniversary on Sanibel. FYI, Sanibel is an island that runs east and west. The lighthouse is on the east end.

Excellent video Sir and Thank You. We will be spending some time there and based on your Ft. Myers Beach video very near where you winter and this motivates me to bring my bike both for the Ft. Myers area as well as Sanibel. Perhaps our paths will cross while riding there.

Choosing any bike is very personal based on your size, riding style, how you ride, and where you plan on riding. Go to a bike store and explain what you're looking for. They'll ask you questions and help you select the right bike for you. Range is detetmined by battery size and how much assist you use. I get 50+ miles on my ebike. I use low assist and ride it like a regular bike.

I’m heading to FMB for a week with friends mid-February and thinking about renting a bike for morning rides but no looking to get “off-island”. How is the cycling - at sunrise - on FMB? I’m not really interested in fighting traffic/cars. Thanks!

There's nice bike lanes on most of Estero Blvd. The section of Estero near the northern end doesn't have bike lanes but the sidewalks are very wide.

Scott; The paths can be used by walkers, runners, and bikers. Class 1 e-bikes are also allowed.

So basically unless you have your own electric bike or rent one its best to drive and pay to park on Sanibel Island because its not easy to get over that bridge back and forth on a regular bike. Very tiring as well on a reguar bike.

Toll booths are gone and license plate readers installed. The county will bill you if you do not have some kind of pass device.

Is the sand hard packed enough to be able to ride a fat tire bike?

I have never ridden a bike on the beaches on Sanibel. The beaches are soft sand. Also, the on and off access points are limited.

Where do you park your bike that it doesn't get stolen when you're on the beach?

At a bike rack, tree, or fence. I always lock it up with a good cable lock.

@@JDawgVideos, I'm thinking about buying a couple of fat tire ebikes when we get moved down there. Will they let you ride them on the beach? Or can you at least bring them on the beach with you?
