8:35 I think I can answer that one: vultures. I once saw a vulture on the road across from my home street slowly pulling a meal away from the center of the road, occasionally dodging cars when they passed by. It was both disgusting and adorable.

I've started biking again a few months ago, which is something that I haven't done since I was a kid. You are not lying, I've had a lot of difficulty finding an adequate bike routes in my city. Road infrastructure is inherently hostile towards bikers and pedestrians, and it's infuriating how much antagonism there is towards non-drivers when the fault for most related road problems is completely the fault of poor city planning. This is too bad, because I almost didn't buy a bike after reading anecdotes online from people in my city talking about why they stopped biking because of how dangerous it can be to ride bikes around here. I'm glad that I ended up getting a bike, but god damn man, why is it so hard for drivers to slow down at cross/stop signs? Also, trucks are not just a bike safety issue, truck drivers are ALWAYS bad drivers.
@jeffreyherrera5069 Жыл бұрын
Yup. Pickup truck drivers tend to be the worst drivers in my experience. Not only do they not know how to drive or know what a turn signal light is, they're the biggest assholes who think they own the road.

Love to see some support for biking, i've never really considered biking on the side of a highway but that sounds horrifying, stay safe

Similarly to your divot story, i was once biking down a road that had no shoulder and a fairly steep lip from the ditch next to it. My front tire got caught on the lip and I fell over, nearly getting squished by the car behind me. That was fun :)

At least in America, Biking simply isn't supposed to be an option. You drive everywhere. That's your one and only option. The Suburbs are too spread out for busses, All of the businesses are too far away to walk because of restrictive Zoning laws, and the roads are intentionally designed to only serve cars at the detriment of pedestrians. There are many reasons as to why this has gotten as bad as it is, but there are simply too many moving parts and too much cost involved to reasonably fix the core issues to why biking sucks in America.

Felt. My truck was lost, went up in flames, and I can't afford to get a new one rn. So I've picked up bicycling instead... There's literally a bike trail to work but I opt for the road instead. The trail has no maintenance such that it's basically broken, it's bump central. Sidewalks aren't much better, really lopsided and also not maintained. But legit the worst? I have no idea why certain street corners in town just randomly end in a bump. Like you'll be riding along, and if you don't realize you need to go around and ascend a driveway, you're just going to hit a concrete bump and bust your face. Literally infrastructure and zoning laws need massive overhaul, and that's obvious to me now more than ever without having a vehicle anymore

I didn't know how horrifying it is biking on the street. That is sad. They obviously did not care about pedestrians and bikers that much when creating those roads.

Yeah I use a motorcycle as my main mode of transportation down here in Florida, and its absolutely terrible how people drive here, to the point where I feel like I'm literally invisible. Cylcing is even worse most of the time, since a lot of places here in Orlando don't even have side walks, or bike lanes.

Here in Missouri (Jefferson County, immediately south of the St Louis metropolitan area), there is very limited bus service - NOT mass transit level of service, and a couple of cab services in the rural areas. The bus is two to five times a day over a single route with widely spaced stops. You'd probably have to walk several miles on roads without sidewalks nor shoulders to reach the nearest stop. It's then about 14 miles to the shopping centers, post office, etc. And if you miss the last bus home - as you might for work, college, or a medical appointment, you are screwed. As for the cabs, yes, we have them; yes, they run 24/7; yes, they are few and far between. You could be waiting two hours for one to arrive, and it's going to cost you nearly $10 dollars a mile. A bit pricy around town, but we're talking 50, 60, 70 dollars each way out in rural hills. It's a hardship on anyone who either doesn't drive or doesn't have their own car. The elderly, disabled, or even teens / 20-somethings who want to work but don't have a way to get to and from a job. Yes, they might be able to move closer to whatever, but rent in town costs more than farther out.

You actually have bike lanes? Well la dee da i gotta just ride on the actual road. Actually i prefer walking over biking due to how crap the roads are. There's constantly work being done on the road, but i dont know what they actually do. Nothing ever seems to change.
