Biking the Camino is no Joke! | Camino de Santiago
This video provides an inexperienced biker's (Tara) perspective on cycling the Camino de Santiago in June of 2021. We biked La Ruta Francesa from St. Jean Pied de Port in France. Tara stopped biking at Logrono because the experience was too intense and not enjoyable. Prior to the Camino, Tara trained for 3 weeks, cycling 10-30 miles per day on a stationary bike in a gym. She also took a few spinning classes. This training was insufficient as we needed to cover 50 miles a day, half of which was up and down gravel mountain trails. The video provides Tara's thoughts and sweeping views of what she saw while biking. Stay tuned for Chris' (an experienced cyclist's) perspective!

I'm hiking the next time as well! 😊 But die to the time limit and my knee, this was what I could do, so I did. But pushing your bike up and using my brakes downhill are really very recognizable! All the best, Kaat

Your fatbike will be better for some areas of the trail and worse for others. There are ridges in the gravel so narrow that ou can only get a skinny tire bike through them. Also, we went on the bike sections of the camino a lot (to get out of the way of the walkers) which is road. A bike with more slender tires is better for the road (although not necessary). The biggest challenge of a fat tire bike will be pushing it up all the hills and mountains. The lighter the bike, the easier it is to push it up. @@theSSHITT i will take notice of your input. I appreciate that, thank you 😇❤️ i guess this Camino presents more challenges than i thought. Fatbike option came to mind only because the relation between the saddle/fat tire and ground is super comfortable for my butt and i found it to be “surprisingly” light ( Trek fatbike 2016 version about 13kg ) and rode 450km from Bayern Munchen/Austrian Alps to Padova,Italy. On asphalt i kept tires at full pressure when riding road. On gravel i decreased pressure to have more contact between the rubber/ground surface . 😇🫡 In time will let you know. Cheers

I tried to get multiple travel agencies to help me plan a trip to Romania (Transylvania), but they outright refused. Especially since the bulk of it would be under a Romanian local company. But boy howdy did they try to push an island vacation. No, I dont want the tropics. I want to see beautiful forests and old castles.

?? I am new to learning of this trail. at first i thought OH,, a BIKE! Nice,, and then i saw those Hills,, no way i would climb the hill slowly rest under a tree. Im older so i know the limits..Walking is simply the best option i see,,,, I don't likek there is some kind of stops at ?churchs? or where some cross it,,, so why are they calling it with this st. james???? and its simplly because the church has lied to the worst SO Much,,

Agreed. Walking is the best option. The Camino de Santiago is a relgious pilgrimage of St. James that many catholics do to honor him and go on a spiritual journey of reflection. But it´s open to everyone of every religion and even those of us who do not believe. I do not believe in God. Like you, I am aware of the lies of the church. Some of the places to get your camino passport stamped are churches, but there really aren´t stops at churches (although there are many churches along the way). I appreciate the architectural beauty of the churches along the path and their cultural significance even though I did not go into any. You can stop anywhere on the camino. You can stay in Albergues and hotels in the little towns along the way.
