God, watching this makes me so jealous. I would love to be able to commute and travel by bike and train safely. If we had similar infrastructure in the US, I could replace about 80% of my car travel with cycling and public transit.

Your GPS is a joke....I can't believe they got you running around like that.....

For me, the problem was I was trying to listen to the street names, which were of course in Dutch. I missed some turns but got to see some areas I wouldn't have otherwise visited. Happy to bike anywhere there to showcase the great, ubiquitous infrastructure. In any case I found the direct route on the return trip shown in Part 3.

@@BikingWithDavid I'll be in Haarlem next saturday...can't wait. We got a couple of bikes where we stay in Zaandam. I don't think I'll be biking to Haarlem but take the train and bike around there...

@@Pelerincha Haarlem is very bikeable from Zaandam. Go over Westzanerdijk (old saltwater dike) to Pont Buitenhuizen (electric full size ferry) and from there via Spaarndam to Haarlem. During summer I ride there quite often and even farther to Zandvoort.

Don't use google to find your route: It is car oriented. No, really it is the pits...

On my phoneI have an routeplanner from the Fietsersbond (Cycling Union). I had to go from one area (in the East) to another area (in the West) of the city, where I live. As a test to see whether this app would choose a bicycle friendly route I put in the address of departure and arrival. I knew a route that is not over the main roads But, even this app chose the car infested main roads as route.
