If you guys only took the effort to talk Dutch, or at least English, but not commonly German as if everybody here would understand it. If you speak your own language in a foreign country that's a little arrogant. When a German approaches me here in MY country, and starts talking German I respond in Dutch. If he does not understand, then I say "Do you speak English?". That's fair game to use a 3rd language as a middle ground.

@Snowwie88 , I work in the tourist industry and there are days that 85% of our customers are German. More and more German people (try to) speak English or even Dutch! Things have changed quite a bit in the last 10 years. But imagine watching TV and (almost) all you hear is your own language? We (the Dutch) are used to watching English/American TV shows and movies in English. From a very young age. That is (or used to be) quite different from what the Germans are used to. To us it comes easier, because we've heard it so much already. I'm pleasantly surprised when the German speak English or even Dutch! And if they can't, I'll try to help them as well as my German allows. 😂 But either way: it is always nice to be kind. Whether you understand each other or not... We need the tourists! 😊 (at least, our city does!)

You really hit the nail on the head with how it's cars that create city noise, not people. A lot of US people who haven't experienced that, look at Euro cities and think "How could you live with all that noise?" but don't actually realise how quiet it is without fast vehicular traffic. Also, cafe culture is fantastic. I'm from Melbourne, not Europe, but it's much the same here and a huge part of our city's culture. It's full of cafes where people can sit, relax, socialise, enjoy great coffee, it's a complete contrast to the corporate/Starbucks type culture of grabbing coffee on the run in the US.

If you did not have kabeljouw, it still can be better. Next time ask for 'kibbeling van (from) kabeljouw (cod). They will probably understand english too 🙂 At about 16:00 minutes you were at the beach in Zandvoort. At this time in the year, it can be (over-)crowded. Now it was almost empty 🙂 You have forgotten to visit the 'strandpaviljoens'. They are like small bars/café 's at the beach. Biggest difference? Welcome to the Netherlands. A few tips/warnings while filming: 1, You are not allowed to have your phone in your hand while bycicling. The fine is €159. Usually police are a bit more understanding with toerists but not always. 2, Filming in public is a bit of a double thing in netherlands. Officially filming in public without permit is only allowed if no other people are recognisable in your images or if it is a crowd of more than 8 people with no people being specifically recognisable or standing out. Usually most people won't mind if you are just filming yourself, but if you want to film someone else or a company it's best to ask premission. (the shots you did of the coffee and sandwich are generally okay, as long as the rest of the business or people working there are not obvious in the image). I've not really heard much of vloggers getting into trouble, but it is a thing to keep in the back of your mind, cause not everyone wants to be filmed and privacy is legally quite protected in the netherlands. Great judgement on the boat situation because indeed that is someone's private property and people generally really don't like toerists just randomly sitting in it. I love seeing how respectful you are and how you are enjoying the netherlands. I hope you have a wonderful trip. P.s. for the weather you can try to use the website buienradar(.nl), it shows you the expected rain and/or thunder clouds for the coming day and is quite easy to use even if you don't understand dutch.

For bike videos the best way is a neck-strap. For example mine are made that way the body helps in keeping it smooth (compared to on the bike) and you have your hands free. For audio best to put a small mic in the back of your head for non talking video so the wind noise is lower.

If you don't know if the car has to stop look for the "shark teeth". The row of triangles on the road. If the tip of the triangle is facing towards the car they have to stop. If it's facing towards you, you have to yield.
@Dutch3DMaster4 ай бұрын
This typically does not apply to pedestrians because there is a general rule that pedestrians don't have to know the rules of the road when it comes to traffic signs (shark teeth typically are accompanied by a yield sign as well) because they are not considered drivers or people in control of a vehicle. In cases of crossings where there is also a cycle path the shark teeth are typically in front of the zebra crossing or cycle path (depending on which one comes first) to indicate that should traffic lights be out, the road markings take priority, of if there are no traffic lights, that's the behavior expected of drivers.

A century ago, places like New York looked like this as well. I recently visited the NY Subway museum and the city was so full of historic buildings back when they subways were constructed.

What a great vlog and how nice you visited my hometown Haarlem. You are so talented in describing your trip and I am really proud of you biking through that rain and wind. You are such a friendly personality, and I really like how you explain the differences. I’m really touched by your friendliness and openness. You even tried herring! You have been unlucky with the weather, this autumn was so bad, so much rain and cold temperatures. It can be quite a bit nicer when it’s not raining. I really enjoyed your vlog and it feels so familiar to me as I recognised all of the footage. As a matter of fact, I made the same bike trip to Zandvoort from Haarlem the other day through the dunes to relax the mind. I understand your confusion about food. I’ve been to United States twice and for me the portion size is so big and the variety of chips or cereal in the US is just mind blowing to me 😅 I really fell in love with New York and New Yorkers, although I know the US is much bigger than just NY, so that’s why I want to see more of your country in the near future.

So nice to see Amsterdam (where I live) and Haarlem (were I grew up) through the eyes of some body who visits for the first time. By bike you really experience the environment so you did well!

I love the Netherlands. Beautiful old towns, rich cultural heritage, awesome transportation solutions (the bike garages !), great universities and other research institutions, keeping up with the 21st century when it comes to technology and digitization of public services, pragmatic, open-minded, friendly. Shout out from Germany (which could learn a lot from their neighbors)!

Dutch bloke here. Some things that stood out to me: 1. I never realised paprika was European. Sure I've never seen it in Asia, but I thought the flavour would be pretty much known throughout the world. More more you know, huh. 2. Praising Albert Heijn for their good prices is super funny to me, because it's actually the most expensive super market chain. 3. Cars are required to stop for any pedestrian on, or about go on, a zebra crossing. It's fine to wave at them as a way to say thanks. Locals sometimes do it too :) 4. Suburbs like you have back in the US aren't really a thing here. It doesn't make sense to us, to dedicate endless fields with single family homes, and then not have any shops nearby. Many neighbourhoods are either mixed-use, or are small enough with a small shopping centre within cycling distance. Anyway, happy to see you're liking our little country :)

Paprika chips (sorry British folks, I know you are calling it crisps and what you call chips is called patat or friet here) is typically Dutch, I haven't seen it outside The Netherlands. Paprika is Dutch for bell pepper.

he flavor of paprikachips is paprikapoeder, which in English is called just paprika.

When travelling I go to Cafés a lot! :D I love to just sit there for two hours, drink hot chocolate or tea, drink some water, relax, read, watch the people and pets walking by, charge my phone... It's the most relaxing way of travelling - long slow walks through the nice areas and from time to time stop to sit down and eat or drink.

You are my favorite youtuber. Many have reaction videos but all they do is talk about stuff, but you really make the effort to travel there and have first-hand experience. It is really fun to watch you interact with new environment. Biking is my biggest passion and I am very excited to be moving from LA to Europe next week. I hope your weather improves a bit! You should come to Prague sometimes, they don't have such great bike lanes but the beer you would love! LOL

Hey JP, back in Europe again. I hope you’ll have a great time. Here in southwestern Germany we’d like to get some of this rain, it’s been rather hot and swampy here. Expect to get thirsty after eating “raw herring”, because it’s cured in a salty brine … I worked up an appetite just seeing all that lovely fish displayed. You do have the right of way on pedestrian crossings with the zebra stripes.
