I am so amazed to find these videos from a time I thought was completely gone and forgotten. The Bothy Band were only together for a short while, but they made a powerful impression at the time. I saw them play at a converted church or whatever, near Trinity College.

@printedpaper Actually that's Kevin Burke on fiddle. Paddy was their first fiddler, but Kevin had joined by the time this was produced.

Hmmm. Buddy Holly digs it. I saw him in the audience. 1976? Great video & audio quality! Must be 1st generation recording from a TV master vault.

Great musicians. They play superb together. The change in tempo between the differend tunes is very difficult.

You have to wonder how the audience could have sat so still and clapped so politely!

Sure, at their level nothing is difficult. But for me, as being a starting musician, it is, and I'm sure a lot of people agree with me.

Is that an electric harpsichord or a regular one? Wonderful sound it makes for these pieces

I'm not sure it's that difficult at their level. The tunes are all jigs (6/8) and it's just a moderate increase from Old Hag into the 2nd tune, done by Kevin Burke the fiddler alone, and from 2 to 3 little or no increase. This is the same arrangement as on their "Old Hag You Have Killed Me" album.

Just read your comment from over a decade ago. I'm not a musician myself but do you care to elaborate?
