I remember at the time he considered this his Superman,the way that Christopher Reeve will always be known as that KR believed he would always be known as Ted and was totally cool with it. I saw an interview with Alex Winter (Bill) and he said he got loads of letters from history teachers saying how this movie got their students interested in history and then got letters from English teachers saying they’d murdered the English language. You should definitely watch the sequels. Also the world would be a better place if everyone followed Bill and Ted’s philosophy of be excellent to each other

I saw him in _River's Edge_ first. (Which Keanu was convinced was a comedy until he saw the finished product.) They were filmed the same year, but Bill & Ted got shelved for a couple of years.

Fun fact... the black man that is seen during the opening credits was the saxophone player in Bruce Springsteen's band before he passed away in 2011 and the woman who played Joan of Arc is Jane Wiedlin, the co-founder and rhythm guitarist of the Go-Go's.

I love the ice cream scene so much. Napoleon believed in awarding medals to motivate his men, his famous quote is "A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon." So him getting the ziggy piggy pin is a subtle joke. I love it! Edit: Also Freud had all those theories about phallic symbolism and in the mall he is holding a corndog. I didn't get that reference until I was much older.

One thing a lot of people miss in this movie is the Rufus Paradox - Rufus never actually introduces himself to the boys - Bill and Ted learn his name from Future Bill and Ted, who learned it from their future selves when they were the earlier Bill and Ted.

Not to mention: where did Rufus come from if the timeline was headed towards the duo breaking up? His future should never have existed! So then you get the question of multiple parallel timelines interacting and all sorts of other nonsense before you remember that it's a very silly movie that doesn't take itself seriously at ALL.

Basically, if you consider the universe a closed system, no matter how many times itis rewound, the same event will always play out. In the same fashion, if someone in the future was to go back in time, they would always go back in time. This would mean that their future actions already exist in their past. This is similar to the grandfather paradox, in that no matter what actions are taken, the same history will always play out. One could even argue, "what if the actions of the time traveler lead to the events of history in the first place?"

There's an extra joke when they meet Socrates -- Socrates' speech incorporates the intro for one of the most well-known (at the time) soap operas, The Days of Our Lives. The actor who played Socrates was actually ON that show. It's like buried comedy.

I love this movie sooo hard. I remember seeing it in the theater when it first came out and being absolutely delighted. To this day, I still say, "Strange things are afoot at the Circle K." The soundtrack is also bonkers good. (Also, can we bring back half-shirts for guys?! They were *everywhere* in the 80s.)

As a lifelong fan, all three are worth watching. Bogus Journey (part 2) is definitely weirder than the first, but it's still good, and adds a great side character. Face The Music (part 3) is the weakest, but still a better-than-average movie and a lot of silly fun, and has its moments. I have a special spot for Face The Music, tho. It was made and released during the pandemic, and it was exactly what the world needed at the time. ❤

Wonderful reaction you two - I would say that "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" (1991) is well worth a reaction video, it's just as much fun and "out there" as you would expect. "Bill & Ted Face The Music" (2020) is a bit more divisive. I'll let other comments deal with that one. :)

22:05 -- That's Jane Wiedlin from the band The Go Gos. One of the cool ties to this movie is, years later, George Carlin did a bit where he broke down the 10 Commandments into 2 simple rules, which basically boiled down to "Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!"

Fun fact: Until fairly recently, there was an _actual_ Circle K in San Dimas, California. It's under new management now, and rebranded as Korner Market, but I remember finding it on Google Maps a few years ago before the rebranding, and some of the reviews were references to this movie.

When they make a stop in the future, Bill and Ted see three supreme beings. The one on the left is Martha Davis who was the lead singer for The Motels. The middle one was Clarence Clemons the saxophone player for Bruce Springsteen. The final one is Fee Waybill from The Tubes.

Ok a couple of notes: First, yes pudding cups back in the day came in tin cans. Second, the girl playing Joan of Arc that you said looks like Wynonna Ryder is actually Jane Wiedlin, guitarist and founder of the 80's all girl group, The Go Gos. Also, yes you really should watch Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. It doesn't have the charm as this one and it's a bit darker but it's still funny as hell and is completely about how and why their music is so important. And the music is great again. As for Bill and Ted Face the Music....comedy is subjective. I didn't like it but some people did. It just doesn't work watching a 55 year old Keanu Reeves doing the same shtick. And the music sucks in that one. There's nothing bombastic about the music; they went with sleek and modern. And it doesn't work for these characters. Also, they place alot of the focus on 'other' characters I really didn't care for.

Watched this movie for the first time a few years ago and seeing a young Keanu Reeves play a literal golden retriever character with floppy hair confirmed my attraction to himbos lmao. Something I like about his and Alex Winters’ performances is that while both of them are extremely dumb, Bill is slightly smarter. He corrects Ted a few times and seems to have the shared brain cell between them more (also the audition footage online makes it clear their chemistry existed from the beginning and I can’t imagine anyone else playing these roles)

Pretty much all his early characters were golden retrievers. (Tod from "Parenthood" was basically the same guy as Ted.) It took him some years to get past that image. Personally, I miss that energy from him. It's been a LONG time since we saw the loose-limbed, fun-loving guy onscreen. I miss that fun energy.

Fun Fact: In the original script, the Nepoleon stuck in San Demas subplot was supposed to be the guy who ran Germany in the 30s & 40s. They changed it to Nepoleon because they decided the original idea would be in poor taste.

In addition to the two sequels, I would also LOVE at least a Patreon exclusive of the *fourth* Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves team-up, the cult classic 1993 comedy Freaked. Bogus Journey gets into some stranger comic territory, and at least some of that was thanks to Winter, who has an offbeat sense of humor. He and his friend Tom Stern co-wrote and co-directed Freaked, which really leans into that stuff, and is also very, very funny. Reeves' appearance is uncredited. I won't tell you who he plays, but his voice is unmistakable.

The 2nd one is it's own thing... some hate it because it's "too weird", but i think it's brilliant.. and it introduces some of the best characters in the series. the Time Travel doesn't play into it as much because the creators didn't wanna do the same thing again.. originally it was titled "BILL AND TED GO TO HELL".. but the studio shot that down.. so it became Bogus Journey. The 3rd one is fun.. not as good as the others, does some retconning.. but it was nice having the characters back and it has some genius moments.... by the 3rd film, there is absolutely no logic to be had.. it's all out bonkers.

What many don't know is that many of the scenes for this movie were shot around Phoenix Az. Here in the last 2 years the Circle K that was filmed closed and metrocenter which was the mall is about to be demolished. They actually had a viewing party for this movie on May 21st as kind of a last Hurrah. The bowling alley is AMF Tempe Village and is still open.

Great reaction, as always. I would say that this is one of the rare occasions where the sequel outshines the original. It takes the weirdness and turns it up to 11. It also features an excellent performance by William Sadler. I look forward to your reaction to it!

I was 14 when this movie was released. I wanted to go to it so bad, but my mom didn’t want to, so it was the first movie I ever went to by myself. I also saw it with my church confirmation group a few weeks later. This movie means so much to me and I still love it!!

This movie, probably more than any other, really symbolizes the best of what the 90s was all about. Yeah, it was a little airheaded, but most people were good intentioned and fun loving. All the bright colors, the music. It's great. And how can you hate a movie with such a nice and simple message? Be excellent to each other, dudes!

It was a time when I feel like we weren't being herded into some new thing to be afraid of - no cold war, no terrorist attacks, no germ warfare - people were sort of random and it was really fun. I actually feel kind of sad watching these movies now and remembering how mentally free people were not that long ago.

I love Socrates because his entire character is written like ancient Greeks are known only for philosophy and athletes, so he's the giga-chad amalgamation of both. This film was ahead of its time.

Definitely watch both. They all connect. The second one, BILL AND TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY...oh man, if you thought the first movie was bonkers... The final movie, BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC, is a nostalgia sequel - Alex Winter (Bill) is actually retired as an actor, he directs very good documentaries now, but he agreed to come back to finish the story. It's a little weird seeing them so old, but the movie mostly works and is a great way to wrap up the series.

Yes, many westerns use the same sets. There are filming ranches in the valley's of southern California that have some fully built town centers. I worked on The Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita for the Deadwood Movie.

Keanu, Alex, and the writing team, throughout all the films, wanted to maintain a sense of innocence, positivity, silliness, heart, and fun, even where they differ. That’s why all three films have aged wonderfully, despite how vastly different they sometimes are tonally and direction-wise, and why all three, including the most recent, are absolutely fantastic, each in their own way, (unfortunately, much unlike other comedy sequels where they tried to update their humor, such as Zoolander or Dumb & Dumber, which had original classics, but horrible sequels.) That’s why the third film took so long to get made: Everyone was successful, and didn’t want to tarnish that sense of innocent fun, but with a positive (and embracing the cheesy but absolutely fully earnest) message 🙂. So happy you reacted to this, and hope you continue the series!

The third was made just a couple years ago and as a guy who watched the original films as a kid in the theater, the third one really hit home. It's actually one of my favorite all time movies now. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is just as good as the first movie, it's just... different in an interesting way. But it absolutely ties in with everything, and I'd say is almost more important for understanding the 3rd movie.

Saw this film with my best friend Chris on a double blind date. Chris WAS Bill but with brunette hair, and while I was taller than him, I was no Ted or Keanu. We identified with the characters so much, as we'd just graduated high school, and I was a history buff. I can't even remember the names of the girls we took to the movies, but this film became our most favorite to quote for decades after together.

All 3 are good.. but part 2 is my favorite!! P.S. YES.. GET SONED for the next one FOR SURE!!! LMFO!! Also.. yes.. in part 3.. they most defiantly play into them being older! The other two are definitely worth watching. Yes, even the 2020 one. The 2020 one was a pleasant surprise in that it had a lot of charm and wasn't bad at all. I will say, though, that I think the shortcomings it does have might've been due to the pandemic imposing limitations on the amount of polish they could give it.
