I remember when this came out & the video. It really touch my heart when Roy Acuff came on & sang the older Country singer!

Thanks Don for introducing me to a song by my all-time favorite Country artist, that I never even knew existed! John Conlee's voice is beyond compare, and his ability to weave song lyrics are amazing. It sounds like this might be one of Bill's songs? I finally got to see John at a local dance hall out here in Llano, Texas a few years ago. Finally got to mark that off my Bucket List! That beautiful voice hadn't missed a lick! And thank you, MontaukEd for the Request!

This is one of those songs that I have placed on a Playlist, that I associate with Bill Anderson, (I am not certain if he wrote it) But great arrangement in this song. Thank you for this one...I have grown to love Bill Andersons songs who is a fantastic song writer in his own right.

Thank you Montauk Ed for this excellent request. A great song to be sure, and the performance was perfect. Bill was one of the first live concerts I ever saw back when I was a teenager (yes, that's way, way back in the 60s) and I remember it clearly to this day ... he was fantastic! Thanks Don for the terrific reaction, and I think your rating is spot-on!

Thanks Ed for this great request. Love the story telling ability of Whispering Bill. And because of John, I wore "Rose Colored Glasses" all through high school (Don seen the picture. The song was written by Orville Couch & Bobbie Jean Carroll and released by Bill in '95.. Also you had already did this one, as he originally did it with Roy Acuff. Thanks for the review. Oh ...... and BANG from Ed 😆😆😆😆

Your welcome Jeff. As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge. To me, several things make this song great: Bill Anderson, John Conley, the lyrics, the steel guitar and the fiddle. Jeff: I must confess my ignorance. What the heck does BANG from Ed mean?

And who better to sing the old man's part than John Conley.? Such an iconic , distinctive voice. Great old song.

2 yrs.ago Don reacted to the original version with Roy Scuff in th John Comics role, he was pretty iconic too. Don apparently liked this one better he rated the Anderson/Scuff version a 9.6 and this a 9.6.

John Conlee is one of my favorite voices, but 9 songs out of 10 I just can't stand to listen to Whispering Bill. This song really does justice to Conlee's voice; as long as I've been listening to him (40 years or so), I never realized how much his cry sounds like Hank Sr.
