It’s been almost 20years since I saw this reenactment on our family vacation and it still has a deep effect on me. A true master at his craft.

@MrWakethesheeple Any given man, and indeed any man of philosophical innovation is not born into a vacuum. Many of the situtations that they found themself in created an extremely precarious position. I do not condone the treatment of Native Americans, but i think you would indeed read much into the letters that were exchanged from the time of the pilgrims up until the time of Jefferson concerning their plight. Their were many many opposed and horrified at the mass murder visited upon them.

@Atheistjeremy --One of the functions of deism was get god out the of crafting of the state and the doing of science. The problem was not that there was a god but that men's conception of him was interfering with the making of a new society according to the observable laws of nature. I've always sympathized with deists and atheists(like Sagan) who've rightly pointed out where certain conceptions of god were muddling the human enterprise.

He was our first Libertarian. He would also have been a Confederate, like his blood relation, Thomas Garland Jefferson, who died May 15, 1864 at the battle of New Market, Virginia, driving the Federals off the hill behind the Bushong House! Deo Vindice!

the founders of early America were not libertarians in their day, because that term did not exist then. the founders were classical liberals, which are what libertarians are today.

Andrew Jackson was our nation's first democrat. although by today's standards, most of our early presidents (certainly all the founding fathers) would be considered libertarian.

Thomas Jefferson the founding father of the Democratic Party. Both Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine were really early forms of liberalism. Both great liberals.
