Bill’s attitude isn’t because he doesn’t want to talk, it’s because there are so many stupid questions. If you ask an intelligent question you will get a great answer. If Ben Volin treated me like he treats Belichick I wouldn’t ever give him a straight answer. “We’re on to Cincinnati” is actually a very smart response. Very simply he is putting the experience in the vault and focusing on what he can do right for next time. It’s not acting. You’ll see the Patriots don’t make excuses - also a very smart way to approach things. It’s why the Patriots are on top. But the press keeps pushing him to blame someone or something because it sells news. Let’s face it today news is entertainment and they are always trying to provoke something. When I look at Belicheck’s after game analysis on the Patriots website, it’s fascinating. You learn about football and strategy. Why can’t the press do that?

I know you made this comment a while ago, but I play football for my high school and team and what you described is so perfectly accurate. The ‘no excuses’ mentality and the ‘on to the next one’ ideology is crucial to successful football teams. Say you blame your offense, then your defense doesn’t really have a reason to improve. And vice versa. If you simply say ‘we need to fix things up and get better for next week’, nobody is safe and everybody needs to improve. Because ultimately no one should be comfortable. Everyone should be striving and working to be better every week. In the end it doesn’t matter what the press has to say or who did what right or who screwed up. In the end all that matters is recognizing your issues and fixing those, while simultaneously strengthening your strong points as well.

@@joenobody2580 Especially since Bill knew at a young age that he wasn't a gifted athlete. He began studying schemes as a teen. By the age of 23 he was hired as an assistant for the Colts. By 27 he was on his fourth NFL team (Colts, Lions, Broncos, Giants) and was promoted to special teams coach and assistant Def Coordinator. Most guys take a decade or more to move that far up in an organization. He did it in 4 years. He was a D Coordinator by 33, Head Coach at 38. It seems common now with guys like Shanahan, Lafleur, McVay, Taylor, and Stefanski being relatively young as head coaches; however, it was a big deal back then. Most of the guys who were made head coaches in their early 30s and stayed a head coach for more than 5 years are in the Hall or will be. Guys like Don Shula, John Madden, Al Davis, Bill Cowher, etc. Belichick, Tomlin, and Mike Shanahan will likely also end up in the Hall.

The press asks a lot of stupid questions. Rather than analyze the game and ask pertinent questions about situational challenges faced in the game, they ask a lot of general questions about feelings....such as: How did you feel about that 3rd and long conversion and what did it mean to the team? (There's only one answer to that question...it was a big play and it felt good to keep the momentum going so we could march down field for the score.) Here's another: Tell me what it means to have Tom Brady leading your team on the field? (What's a coach gonna say? He's gonna say the same thing over and over again.) It's always... "Talk about how you feel about this....how you feel about that...??" In sports, everything is a cliche' and every general question has been asked a million different ways. On that rare occasion, when you get a very good question, Bill will answer it with great detail and clarity. I don't blame him or any other coach for not liking post game press conferences. There are a lot of reporters with low IQ's asking ridiculous questions. Ask him to break down a play and what his mind set was for calling it, and he'll give you a world of insight and knowledge like none other.

ChasinFromBehind Lol when you start off a debate with "there's something you need to understand," you kinda set the tone if you get my drift. You're saying he just wants to play ball, but he DOESN'T just want to play ball now does he? It's not enough that he can't give a normal post-game interview like everyone else. He needs to get punished to force him to give an interview. But that's not enough for Lynch, either. He has to do it in a way to attract the most attention to himself as possible, and find a loophole in the rules. But even that's not enough. Not only does he screw around with the rules, but he's proud of it and even uses it to hawk soda on TV and now trademarks his infamous phrase so he can make more money off his poor behavior. All this, combined with his off the field issues, does not indicate that Lynch just wants to "play ball." You know who just wants to play ball? Tom Brady. Russell Wilson. JJ Watt. And they're not really stars, but Thomas Rawls and Bryce Brown seem to be more professional also. Lynch, like so many other Seahawks, is a drama queen.

At first I was thinking, Gosh how could this only be 5:39 long... and then I thought, nah, that makes sense it's probably every thing he's said in his tenure as HC of the Pats up to that point. Needless to say this is rather enjoyable and brings me a good laugh after a long week.

If you watch Bill imic'd up you realize this is him. In the field he doesn't have to say much but when he does you listen he will make you better. It's not "do your job" like you think it's yes Do my job because you don't want to let Bill down! Mad respect not the best mic to the face skills but a true legend.

Joe Bellino was a Navy player in 1960 when Bill was hanging out at Annapolis. I saw a utube video with where someone asked Bill to diagram a play called for Joe Bellino, and Bill accurately drew it up. Bill must have been about 10 years old at the time. But he could accurately recall the play, and the call from over 50 years earlier, Bellino confirmed it. Simply an amazing football mind.

"I'm only here so I'm not fined" basically sums up every press conference Bill has given. He's there to coach his team, not answer dumb questions from these reporters.
@brettfavreify9 жыл бұрын
That's right boys, ask a smart question, get a good answer. Prepare and show the person you're interviewing that you've done your homework. Kinda basic journalism. Prepare for the interview. I cringe at what reporters ask at press conferences. Doesn't enhance the profile of the profession.

The key is to get him going about something like some defensive scheme Paul Brown ran for the 1955 Browns. That kind of stuff gets him going.

I'm a dolphins fan and hate the patriots with a passion but I have the utmost respect for BB. His handprints are all over NFL in every coaching staff somewhere. Ozzie Newsome learned directly from this guys process and built one of the best defenses ever. What he has done with the pats organization is the stuff of legends. He is one of the only coaches that is on the level of Don Shula, Lombardi, Landry and those legend coaches. I love his press conferences haha. Anytime someone asks me a tough question my answer is: I'm onto cincinatti.
