Bill Bruford performing "Beelzebub" live at his Drum Clinic at Mohawk College, November 14, 2006 in Hamilton, ON. Best video quality I've seen so far from this clinic, but I should have brought a tripod :-(.
Sorry for the delay; more of these should be coming soon.

Never overplays? You never heard Fracture or Indiscipline? Or any of the live improvs in the mid 70s? The man went insane on the drums when they unleashed him from the complex technical songs.

He was the power and the brilliant rthymic dynamic, both inhanceing, and providing perfect synchronization with other instrumentle sections. The best albums of Yes, and king crimson, were undeniable the ones with Bill Bruford at the Helm of the Drums.🥁🥁

I have my kit set up like his now. remote hi-hat so i can place the hats basically right in front of me with no need to cross over anymore. I also use an Offset double-kick so that I can position myself right on front of the bass drum with the snare between the kick pedals. I have toms set up to my left and right so I can roll either way. Ride to my right where its always been. crash cymbals placed here and there. can't believe I used to play any other way.

Bill IS Beelzebub lol, and my all-time, hands-down hero. Fully understand the move to Crimson, also one of my all-time favs; however, sad there is no live footage of Bill playing Close To The Edge in 74-75, as he did not make the tour....
@dragonfly8341
@dragonfly8341 6 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Andrews I totally agree with you. Apparently Bill Bruford offered to fulfill the touring obligations for the '72-73 tour supporting 'Close To The Edge', however it was Steve Howe who wished for his immediate departure once Bruford announced his resignation, as he felt his heart was not in it anymore. By '74-75 Alan White was firmly entrenched within the Yes ranks & Bruford's original tenure in King Crimson was nearing it's end.

@blondeandblue I agree, but he doesn't change his setup that much (anymore). The hihat in the front of the snare, with the cable stand/footpedal and the toms flat on the side is just ingenious! He says it's easier to play there, and it certainly makes his playing look very comfortable, and the kit looks freaking beautiful in its symmetry. And the playing.. so original and solid, powerful and jazzy, technical yet groovy, with the trademark rimshots, and also composing... I love it... (no homo)

I'n not here to start any debates. I don't care who your favorite drummer is. And you don't care who mine is. But I still like Peart's solo's better than anyone elses. Aside from that, I agree with most of you who think Bill was all around the best prog drummer. And, like so many other's pointed out, he's cool and just a well put together person. If I had any choice of teachers, it would have been him.
