Plenty of people were interested in this. I was doing a bit of down-sizing and auctioned most of my gear. I know lots of you guys were very happy to have ended up with some piece of kit or other that you’d heard on certain recordings. It makes me feel good that everything from small tambourines to whole kits went to loving homes. Of course, I kept a small Tama Starclassic set for myself to tinker on, when the spirit moves. Graham Russell Drums and I spent a lot of time organising, cataloguing and signing, and generally preparing for the sale. Thanks Graham! #billbrufordsearthworks

"I'm not good at concerts, if it's terrible I want to leave, and if it's brilliant I want to play" love that quote.

i am in the exact same position, its no fun basically. but allot of people try to increase prestige novadays pretending to be behind it still(musicians) as if nothing has happened. And its also misunderstood as an ego thing its not, its a "sensitivity didnt tell me about the after effects of exsessive writing and listening of music" thing.. I absolutely prefer playing over listening, more and more.

I can just see Danny Carrey when he goes to play with Tool or Volto, and is like, "Hey guys! This is the Bill Bruford kit!!" 💩🥁

I bought Bill's smallest brass square. He signed it; Bill is a class act. It sounds just like the "ding" in Fracture, but there's no way to verify that.

Agreed Bill, Gavin Harrison one of the best, most interesting drummers of the day. And to get that compliment from Mr Bruford, wow…..

For me those 2 have done a tremendous job of developing a unique style, but also one of musicality that most drummers do not achieve

I remember reading an article about Bill integrating chordal structures of the Simmons with acoustic drumming rhythms. And the interviewer actually brought this up to Max Roach and Max's statement was, 'There's alot of drummers that are doing great things. But that Bruford, he's an innovator.' Well said.

Just can't say how much I love Bill, excuse me Mr. Bruford. Reading endless mag's makes one feel him a friend, even a friendly family member. Needless to say he has been a fantastic influence on me and my expansion of equipment, especially midi gear. Thanks bill I wish I could afford your gear!!!! Thanks for all the education, you made me a better drummer.

Many years ago, I sold my canary yellow Yamaha 9000 and cymbals to Graham. It hurt to let it go but the cash really helped me out at the time. If I was to buy another kit I'd definitely go to Graham. The setup he has is amazing.

Mr Bruford always comes across as a very modest person, intellectual about music. Reminds me somewhat of David Byrne in that respect. Had a listen to the Genesis the two mention in the video here. Really something. Tremendous energy, creativity. What do we have now? Coldplay dear me.

I'm amazed to see the Tama Bell Brass there. That's the one. The holy grail of rock snare drums. Wanted by many, usually just able to be rented by a few.

King Crimson now reminds me of Fleetwood Mac after they got rid of Lindsey Buckingham, they needed two guitarists to replace him. King Crimson now has 3 drummers to replace Bill Bruford.

I have a question for drummers, how much does just the colour of the drums mean when picking a kit or components? I met somebody who was car shopping and they said they ONLY cared about the colour. I'm assuming you can paint them, I can't decide if I like those yellow ones or not. Zildjan came from the US, but Sabian would have been a little cheaper coming from right near here in New Brunswick Canada.

dear mr bruford, a kind suggestion: instead of talking gear (which is, of course, interesting, don´t get me wrong), you should contemplate getting back in the studio/on stage, together with, let´s say, django bates. give him a call in bern/switzerland and ask him to join you, like w/borstlap. we, your fans, miss you as an *artist*, not as a "legacy curator". ask stuart nicholson or michael rusenberg to do it, in exchange for.. i don´t know. kind regards

Personally, I'm glad Mr. Bruford is taking it easy and enjoying his golden years; he's more than earned it. Too many musicians have forced themselves to keep going when they no longer enjoy or excel at the job, and after what happened to Keith Emerson in particular it's hard to feel anything but happy for elderly musicians who have opted to step down, rest on their laurels, and enjoy their personal life instead of going back into the high-stress zone over and over until they die.
