Bruford....such a delicate touch....his grooves are a nice combination of "slink" behind the beat and unexpected syncopation. He hooked me with the Yes Album...his drum sounds are also stellar...the "toonk" of his snare....one of the true greats.

To me, what makes him great is his uniqueness. No one else sounds like him, and his was so inventive. My favorite drummer ever.
@mrpentium17 жыл бұрын
Genius is making the impossible look easy, and that's what he does. To boot, his drum tuning is totally unique, and his inventiveness and timing are impeckable. That's how we can listem to these songs over and over again...they're appealing on so many levels. I never listened to the drums before Bruford and Tony Williams.

That`s how you play Drums with Class, Mastery and incredible Precision. No showing off, just the right notes in the right places and an incredible sense of taste. Rest assured that it requires much more than technique alone.
@brownhooque10 жыл бұрын
This is one of those songs that sounds easy to play...until you try to play it. Although the timing is challenging in its own right, the feel is actually the culprit in the field of difficulty. Bruford most definitely makes it look so easy. A true master and inspiration to many greats. Thanks for posting this video!!

Robert Fripp is going apoplectic listening to all the cymbal strikes! :-) I wish I could have seen Bill play live... My 3 favorite drummers were, in no specific order, the late, great Neil Peart, who I did see play live somewhere between 15 and 20 times, Steve Gadd, who I only saw play live once, and Bill.

I was fortunate to have seen Bill Bruford twice so far. Once with U. K. and then with AWBH and with U.K. he was incredible! I went with a budding drummer friend of mine who was completely blown away with Bruford and the whole band as well. The way he would do like triplet rolls and he would have this very serene expression on his face where as most drummers would have looks of absolute terror or pain on their faces, he was like it's just a walk in the park.

that doubletime section at the solo at 1:50 is my favorite bill bruford moment ever and probably the most reused groove that he's done. Before him I don't think there was a groove much like that, and since, people are using it everywhere!! I like his ride hiccup at :50 and like the badass that he is, he just smiles it off :)

Bill is without question one of my top 5 all time favorites, and his influence would be impossible to quantify. There are drummers now being influenced by drummers that were influenced by him! I truly believe the next “great influencer” will be Gavin Harrison. Listen to some of his recent work with The Pineapple Thief and you’ll see what I mean. Oh, I met Bill in Germany in ‘89 right after he came out of the studio for ABWH; he was touring with Earthworks. I had a hard time accepting for a week that I had just met him. Surreal. I will let you know that he was as natural as could be, the opposite of self-important. He was kind, signed my CD, fielded my questions without hurrying me, even asking ME questions!
@dmelv13 жыл бұрын
Position of the hats is in front of the snare. He's using that Tama hat stand with the pedal running through a funky cable so you can place the pedal away from the hats. Strange but I guess it works

I would also like to see some of brufords songs on here that has Annette Peacock singing . there are two other bruford albums i forgot the name of that i liked.
