I have come across this video only today, refreshing memories from late 80s when Dynasty was one of my favourite shows. No doubt, Bill Conti who produced this classic theme is a genius composer along side others such as Henry Mancini and John Barry.

As a Colorado native, I loved all the scenes of the mountains and of Denver, my hometown. I was on active duty in North Dakota during the early 1980s, and the Dynasty scenes and music kept me going!

Perhaps the best rendition of the theme, with the slightly slower tempo so you can sit back and enjoy the music more--very clever. I love how the trumpets play, with their very modest vibratos at the end of each note to elicit a feeling of helpless pleasure. Example starting at 1:47. This rendition is indeed so beautiful it can make a grown man cry, as suggested in the intro. Bill Conti would be very proud of this one.

Great theme song! Interestingly, the home used for Blake Carrington in Dynasty is actually located in the Silicon Valley in Northern California and not outside of Denver, Colorado. It is called Filoli and it is located in Woodside, California -- less than 25 miles south of San Francisco and just off of scenic Interstate 280. The estate encompasses 650+ acres and is open to the public. My wife and I have toured the area a few times. It was once owned by a wealthy gentleman who owned one of the largest and most successful gold mines in California. Although it sounds like it has a Latin basis, the name "Filoli" doesn't really mean anything in the romance languages. It was actually an acronym for Fight, Love, Live -- using the first two letters of the owner's personal mantra: "Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life." After his death, a shipping magnate purchased the estate as a place to raise his family. He expanded the gardens, ranch and stables. After his death, his widow donated the home. The property is located less than a mile from the San Andreas fault and on the peninsula in-between the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. If you ever have a chance to visit the home, you should do it! Whenever I visit, I can't help but "hum" this theme in my mind. Since there are reports that Dynasty is being picked up for a reboot, I wonder if they will be filming here or using the theme again.

I added a tube amplifier when I remastered the track and it really kicked life in the brass. If you listen to the original CD it won't sound like this because it's actually a poorly recorded track.

It's stirs something deep inside of me no matter how many times I listened and no matter what mood I'm in. The day I cant enjoy this music I know it's time to start some serious anti-depressant.
