My mother took care of his mom at the Pines nursing home on the 4th floor in Poughkeepsie. I’ve live in Poughkeepsie most of my life and there were definitely some challenges with racism. They cleaning the streets up trying to make it a better place. I believe every town every city has its good and its bad. It’s up to us as people to make it a better place. It’s not the city it’s the people in it. Facts

My former math teacher told me that Mr. Bill Duke and her were in love when they were young. She’s of Italian descent and her parents disapproved of her dating a black man. She explained her parents threatened to disown her if she continued her relationship with Mr. Duke. She explained how that impacted her life. She forever resented her parents and was scarred because of it. This teacher made an impact in my life and I always think of her story. I’ve never told this story until I saw this video.

If more black men did what his father did, you probably wouldn't have police acting the way they act.

🤔 I understand your perspective, but no brother, we don't have a system in place to back such a group of men up like the present one in which THEY have. Sadly, like another commenter stated, "They would be dead".
@EntertheBlackDragon5 жыл бұрын
@@darmadusa I disagree, we can easily say in 2019 that they would be dead. We can't apply today's actions standards, laws, and consequences with that of the era of our grandfathers. There was a time where black men held off klansman with firearms and balls of steel. If we simply had kept up that tradition, if this was our birthright to simply defend ourselves and our families, more black men would be alive and not shot down by cowards in uniforms and badges. I simply don't think fear wins, i think fighting you have a chance, when you've surrendered you have already lost. I think we as men have lost our ways. We come from an entire race of warriors who were never conquered, only stolen armed enslaved upon a rock that is not our own. Don't ever think that you don't have a choice and then apply it up and down history as if your point of view and fear were shared amongst an entire nation of beings that would rather die fighting than live in bondage. I may respect your points of view but it comes from both weakness and fear. You simply seem to think that in all history we are supposed to be cowards because of the systemic executions we see happening. As i listen to malcolm x louis farrakhan. I realize now how soft we have become. Time to "get hard". Gotta get back to the man thing. I'll let you in on a little secret, we're all going to die. The question is will you die in bondage or in freedom. Fighting or running. Afraid or fearless. Think real hard and dig real deep. Find out which one you are or which one you plan to be.
@darmadusa5 жыл бұрын
I don't have to dig or search for anything, for I'm fully aware of the situation at hand. My previous comment was based on an observation to a VERY REAL possibility. I wasn't eluding to Black men cowering. I was pointing out that such a move is not backed by a system that would protect them. There are reasons why you don't see groups of Black men (I'm SURE, including yourself) doing it. It's not out of cowardice, but out of caution and a greater need of organization and unity. Hey, I'm all for people getting together and standing up to the ills of this land, but we just don't have the numbers and COLLECTIVE mindset to pull that off. That's all. Sometimes, in the pursuit of being pro Black and woke, we shut out and insult those with varying views. Avoid that, please, and eat more fiber. 👍🏿 Peace

I was bussed into Poughkeepsie High School during desegregation though at the time, I just assumed that is where the high school was. Racism goes both ways. It was a terrifying experience. Those kids were scary - pulling knives in the girls bathroom, walking in lines across the hall so you couldn't get through, reaching under your dress and grabbing you when you were leaving (while they sat on the door steps), taking the white priciple/dean out to the parking lot and beating him up. I had never experienced anything like the hate that festered there - and frankly I never saw it provoked so I don't know where it all came from, but it was real and it was ugly. I moved to Alabama when I was 16 - Blacks there were lovely, I thought, and capable of genuine friendship.

Tell me more about how you lived a privileged life and are blind. Arlington? Must be nice. Take a trip through Poughkeepsie high school and tell me those schools aren't segregated by privilege. The difference is literally black and white. 46% graduation rate compared to 98%. Do I have to give you numbers on racial demographics? I imagine you can get a good idea. The TOWN of Poughkeepsie is very different from the CITY. Gentrification does that. Makes it seem great: pay no attention to the homeless, food shortage line or graduation rate. But hey, Arlington has a black teacher so it's not racist. I'm telling you straight up. The Police have a desecrated flag that violates the flag code; they call it Blue Lives Matter just hanging in the city PD, but yeah, not racist......

I think it definitely is important to define the difference personal racism and systematic racism, but personal racism is still racism. I think it's important to point out: I think that's really awesome that he was able to receive that help from the college, but after hiring a Chief Diversity Officer, they are finding that there still is a lot of work to be done to aid the staff in understanding how to provide an encouraging and supportive environment for all the students as there still isn't equity and especially for people of color. I'm sure this is an issue across the board at colleges. Internalizing these experiences, it becomes very clear why that personal racism exists, and the fact it takes a handout to get some level of equity is disgusting. I think Killer Mike made it clear in Reagan.

Lol it was racist in the 50s but you realize most places were go to pk now its pretty multicultural like many other places js. Realize its upstate NY. NY was never rocking with slavery. Slaves went to the North to be free. Also can we get a clear def of what racism is bc its very annoying and not credible when people make up there own defs of racism on the spot like that. Mb if people were clearer about it we could understand it and communicate better and work to avoid it and not continue that cycle of hate. Like lil wayne said i dont see the racism. Most my friends black and other ethnicities. And she said a black person cant deny a white person of work bc of there color but im sure its happened tho like there arent any black owners of buisnesses smh not saying that it hasnt happened a lot more and over time since slavery or taking away whats gone on to people of color but too completely rule it out hmmm def biased. Plus most people feed into that vibe of ohhh they must be racist like jeez way to jump the gun like it could be other stuff not too say it doesn't happen alot but when thats the first and only thing a person say hmmmmm how realiable is there opinion.

That doesn't mean institutional racism doesn't exists. Look, she doesn't have the clearest view of racism as she denies personal racism is racism at all, but it is absolutely true that there is a systematic effort that creates an inequitable and unequal advantage for people who are not POC. In real estate, there are policies that prevented people of color from moving into certain neighborhoods, while these policies officially ended in the 80s, implicit racism still exists. In every facet, education, health care, real estate...., there is racism.
