Very Kool. I've always wondered what the Brubeck Quartet would have sounded like, playing Hillbilly Jazz... Now I know! 😁

That was awesome! Though I think that is Whistle Stop not Bryant's Boogie.

Great tune. Would you mind fixing the spelling on "Bryant" in your title Bryants Boogie to honour a kick-axe Tele player who wrote the song? Muchas gracias amigo. :)

+Johnnie Guitar fun trivia- Bryant recorded most of his hits on a Strat :)
@johnnieguitar57248 жыл бұрын
+Arkaadijs Arka thank you! Your comment about the Strat is accurate. In a book on Leo Fender, it reveals that Leo gave Jimmy prototypes of the Stratocaster to try out, after asking Jimmy how he could improve the Tele design. You probably know that players hated the Tele sharp edges and wanted a comfort contour done, as well as one or two more pickups. Leo decided three was enough. :)

+Johnnie Guitar BTW, JImmy was one of the first pros to buy a Broadcaster/Telecaster, from Leo, at a gig where he was flogging them because no one else was buying them from his store. Customers thought they were ugly and heavy and wouldn't even plug them in. Jimmy had not played a solid body that sounded that bright, and bought a Tele on the spot.

Bill Frisell plays Jimmy Bryant's tune "WHISTLE STOP" - it's NOT Bryant's Boogie! Too bad the band is NOT together on this... the bass and drums are not in the pocket at all and it's obvious they aren't even paying attention to one another. That's a poor foundation! To top it off Frisell and the steel man are running all over each other and that is NOT music! You wouldn't catch Jimmy and Speedy doing that - and they'd have a bass player and drummer that were in it together. This is a free for all. Nice tribute to Bryant but it's not even close!

You just don't get Bill Frissell. Much of his music, whether he is collaborating or by himself is close to the dividing line between exquisitely beautiful and WTF.

"not in the pocket".. "running over each other"... are we listening to the same tune?

Amazing pocket! Everyone but the drummer lays out, he plays wiggly 2 bar fill, and everyone lands on the feet. This is a blast.
