I like this old song. Like a lot of Frisell’s work, this isn’t quite the song itself- more like what the song dreams about in its sleep.

The guitars sound so GOOD! But kudos to the bass man and that fat, smooth as glass bottom end and the tasteful drummer and great tone from his kit. This is a great band of tasty guitar goodness! Great job guys!

Oooooh, that bass sound... like a soft cushion somewhere under my lungs. Guitar's very nice, too. I'm sorry to have forgotten about Frisell lately - he's a great musician.

Well Bathoshue I might end up commenting on many Bill videos this evening, thank you and all posters. Have not seen him live for years (York, England in a converted chapel) but I listen all the time. This is wonderful especially - I think I might be viewing this French performance time and time again ...

Don't think I've heard of Bill Frisell until Paul Jones played 'Messing with the Kid' on Monday 8th February's Radio2 R&B show. I loved the sound - and immediately reached for the vol. control to listen properly. It seemed like a better version than the video, with subtle use of wah-wah pedal. I particularly like the support guitar working steadily away on the background riff . . . makes all the difference. Good to see that Old Guys have still got it: there's hope for me yet! Thanks for posting!

At Wilco's Solid Sound Festival in 2015, I got to see Bill play a live score to a silent movie, do a solo show, play with a trio, play with Charles Lloyd and his group, and sit in with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy for a couple of songs. And I still couldn't get enough of his playing!

I was going to be grumpy on this Sunday morning and say that the best way to get people to skip and skim over your videos is to upload a whole lot all at once. How foolish of me to have ignored the Frisell effect. I've loved all these videos. Thanks so much for posting them.

Well, this is not bad, but it disappoints. (I used to hate this tune when in a blues band, it's such a repetitious unrelentingly loud motor-head kind of thing. Kind of typifies some of the worst aspects of electric blues, IMHO.) So I thought, what could Frisell et al possibly do with it that would transcend that, and take it somewhere unexpected? If anyone could, it would be Frisell. And for a while it seems like they're on the verge of getting into an interesting kind of pared-down and spare version with more open space, less-is-more thing happening, but then they fall into the trite. Drummer especially loses the opportunity to create space, starts to just grind it out, too busy. Does something better happen? I didn't wait to hear.
@nanordstrom6 жыл бұрын
I nearly fell asleep.. zzzz. Bill probably had a stroke that destroyed all the vibes and feelings for the blues, really, really shitty version of a classic blues number. Also there is no lyrics, which is probably due to afasi caused by the stroke he had.
