For peeps who didnt know. John Mulaney would change Bill Haders lines moments before he went on as Stefon, the character was meant for him to break.

"A doorman who always high-fives children of divorce" is still one of my favorite sentences of all-time.

The Stefon bits are even funnier now knowing that John Mulaney writes the cue cards and doesn't tell Bill what's going to be on them beforehand

Bill Hader is the embodiment of reading Cards Against Humanity cards for the first time

Bill Hader, gasping for breath as he forces out the words like they are his last: "D-dan Cortez."

He laughed so much I legit thought putting his hands to his mouth was part of his character

This shit is pretty hilarious regardless, but knowing now that John Mulaney was using Stefon as a way to fuck with Bill makes it 10 times better.

Bill Hader is so in character he even laughs homosexually. Masterpiece.

The way he puts his hands over his mouth when he breaks just SENDS me

The fact that he breaks everytime he says Dan Cortez, despite the fact that somebody puts it in every time so he should expect it. 🤣🤣🤣

Bill Hader really took advantage of the fact that this show was LIVE. You felt like he was really feeding off the energy of the crowd. I know he was anxious a lot but he seemed to use it to energize his acting because he always found a way to make something spontaneous about his performance. This, in my opinion, is way he deserves to be known as one of the best SNL cast members of all time.

Bill Hader breaking character is such a wholesome thing to watch. He really has a natural talent for comedy and it never gets old.

I feel like Cards Against Humanity needs a Stefan expansion pack.

Honestly Bill Hader breaking is the vibe SNL needs to strive for. He broke pretty easily but it rarely felt distracting or unprofessional like when Fallon did. It was usually because something actually very funny was happening and it almost always made me laugh even harder.

You can just see the confusion on his face after ‘a doorman who always high fives children of divorce’ lmao

I feel like the Stefan sketches just existed so that John Mulaney could come up with the most oddly specific things he could think of

The Californians sketches are the best because EVERYONE breaks in those.

I love that so many of the jokes are clearly written to make Bill specifically laugh. A lot of viewers probably don't even recognize fairly arcane 90s references like Dan Cortese and Spud Webb, but if you're Bill Hader's age (as I am), that level of specificity in pop culture knowledge is hilarious.
