Personally, I prefer The Virgin Spring, a brutal, powerful early era revenge movie by Bergman of all people. It's my favorite Max von Sydow performance and that scene with him pulling down the tree alone is worth it.

Well, he tries to modernize, and put the culture of a psychopath in the U.S., within it as well. Bergman is of such a different era, and style of director. I’ve seen them both. Bergman has some beautiful shots, and it’s good. I was younger when I saw Last House…, so I it’s a different thing to me. I was maybe 10, so I didn’t have access to The Virgin Spring, even though I read that it was a remake of it in Fangoria, or some other magazine, back then.

I agree, but there's a part of me that really wants to picture Wes Craven's career continuing in this direction: The Seals Have Eyes, The Strawberry and the Rainbow, The People Under the Glass Darkly, Deadly Fanny and Alexander, A Silence on Elm Street...

There's a DVD edition of this movie where they gave 3 of the actors a full length commentary. It was so funny because two of them were really proud to have been in it, and the third one just hated every minute of it, and spent the entire commentary shitting on the movie and Wes Craven. I wish I could find that edition and buy it!

The first chainsaw movie, the realism, the finality, the thought that any character in this film could be someone you know. A true study of guerilla filmmaking taught in film classes. Although brutal it launched a genre and its legend lives on. RIP Wes,David,Fred and Yvonne.

I was 14 when this released and did see it sometime shortly after. It had this documentary feel to it along with the unapologetic violence and hopelessness which made it a one and done for me personally. Not many films sit in this category for me. Some are worth seeing once though (Kramer vs Kramer) while other's - not so much.

And the road leads to nowhere and the castle stays the same and the father tells the mother wait for the rain, wait for the rain ...and the road leads to nowhere.' A banging, haunting tune by David Hess.

Amazing song. Loved how Eli Roth used it in Cabin Fever. Then Tarintino using another Last House David Hess song in Hateful Eight

Wes Craven was very inventive, but his films all had a kind of detached quality to them, focusing on the clever gimmick at hand - except for this one - this felt personal - and it also feels a bit like an early Abel Ferrara film
@neilold72912 ай бұрын
David Hess, the villain in the movie, sings nany if the tunes in it. They're done in a deliberately upbeat fashion as a way of kinda being a counter action to the horror and brutality being shown on screen
