Most bass tabs out there for this song have it wrong. This guy is true to the original song with the original key. He doesn't play the bass line boogie woogie style like you would think; He walks up to the Fifth, instead of emphasizing the Third. And he plays it upright style, in a higher octave. GREAT job sir.

Marshall Lytle played and upright bass and originated the slap bass technique. Listen again to the song and hear the click, click, click... which is Lytle's bass playing. And watch Craig Morrison's interview with Marshall Lytle.

Great cover I had no idea until watching your cover how busy the bass line was in this classic tune
@kennikuhlmann-clark98607 жыл бұрын
It's originally played on a double-bass (i.e., stand-up bass, bass fiddle, contrabass), which is also acoustic and fretless (unlike most electric bass guitars)... it was not played originally on a bass guitar....

The bass line on Spotify is different to this one. Is there two versions of this song? I checked out the youtube original and what your playing is on the money. What's going on with that???

Some of those 50's style bass lines are mad difficult to play.

Watch Craig Morrison's interview with Marshall Lytle. Bill Haley actually gave him his first bass lesson. He describes how slapping is done.

yes, many of the 50's basslines are buried in the mix..

Awesome! Is there a bit of chromaticism in this bass line?
@davidmfass3 жыл бұрын
Seems like. The bass during the guitar break goes A,C#,D,D#,E and back down again. Nice chromatic run. Not very typical rock bassline, more jazzy I think.

An unusual bass line. It uses scale movement instead of arpeggios.
@davidmfass3 жыл бұрын
Love the cover, but when I listen to the original it seems like the bass line stays the same through the guitar and sax solos. It's just the same all the way through... that's what I hear.

You play it wrong... At least in the real version it starts from open A string you play it way too up and it sounds bad
@kennet78377 жыл бұрын
It is played on the high A originally, but it sounds better on an upright bass of course.
