Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with Metroun. I recently requested a video on a specific topic and the guys over at Metroun produced it for me. They totally rock! What's really cool about these guys is that they're always looking to help out. If you're struggling with a particular area or just want more information, they'll add it to their list and often create a video on the topic in a few weeks. I've been following Metroun for three years now and have requested three videos during my time at university. Each time, the production team has delivered a video covering exactly what I needed more information on. So, I just wanted to say a big thank you to Metroun for being such a helpful and friendly channel. You guys are awesome!

Currently training as a QS. These videos are helpful. I genuinely can't find any revision material so I can get ahead before I start uni, is there any revision material you have available or sites you know of? Thanks, great video once again

Hello David, thank you for your comment! The reason we started this channel was to help people just like you. We went through the same thing when we started in the world of QSing with very limited information being available on the web. We wanted to provide a channel that would help people in your position that needed quick, concise information on the most prominent QS topics. RICS has a wealth of information so you could also try there as well as our vast array of QS playlists :)

Thanks for the reply! That’s excellent. I have watched loads of your videos, they’re extremely helpful, was looking for some real in depth lessons, will give RICS a look. Thanks again.

Thank you David! We also have a telegram group where a growing number of like minded QS's speak and share resources etc. which may be helpful. The link is t.me/metrounqs in case you wanted to join

When producing the BOQ, do the QS receive support from specialist engineers for advice on what to make an allowance for? I.e. I can’t imagine many cost consultants specialise in M&E therefore, providing a BOQ for a data centre project will require some input from experienced engineers.
@Metroun2 жыл бұрын
Hello Pedro, thank you for your comment. The production of BoQ's is predominantly the responsibility of the QS however, as you mentioned there are scenarios which warrant input from other areas of expertise. A lot of experienced QS's tend to pick this knowledge up over the years in their role so less and less input is required. But yes, certainly newer QS's will need support.

I wanted to get into QS from a different BSc degree. Would you say there are enough job opportunities in the UK? Please advise.
@Metroun Жыл бұрын
Although recently being removed from the UK skill shortage list, there is still a huge demand for good Quantity Surveyors in the UK.

Can you you make one on the contract between main contractor and subcontractor
@Metroun3 жыл бұрын
Hello Colin, thank you for your suggestion, we really appreciate it! This is certainly something we will look to do in the future. As a general point though, the main core clauses and rules tend to be back to back with the contract that the client (or employer) appoints the main contractor under. If we were to do a video on the contract between the main contractor and subcontractor, would you prefer to see one that deals with the NEC suite of contracts or JCT? Or even both!?
@ahhm3 жыл бұрын
@@Metroun NEC contract is mostly what I'm currently useing/studying, but both would be perfect. Thanks for the help!

This is unbalanced. Surely when a contractor provides a competitive price against a BOQ, even when met with preferable ground conditions, the rate should remain the same? Conversely, if the ground conditions were poor, you wouldn't expect the Client to accept higher rates than that contained in the tendered BOQ?
@Metroun3 жыл бұрын
Hello Rando'thol, we are sorry to read that you feel this video is unbalanced but really appreciate your feedback all the same, could you please expand on why you feel this way? Apologies for the misunderstanding but we mentioned that preferable ground conditions may reduce the 'quantity' of a certain item or element of works, we did not say that the 'rate' would change. So we actually agree with you! We would not expect the physical rate to change either, simply the quantity :)

@@Metroun Ok, understood. I thought you meant the rate would change!
