Bill and Connor Schell got the idea for “30 for 30” from the 1999-2007 ESPN program “SportsCentury.” Simmons’ just expounded on an already Peabody award winning framework built by that aforementioned program. And SportsCentury was more than just the Top 50 athletes of all time series. They documented such topics as “The Flu Game”, “1972 Olympic Men’s Basketball Final”, “1985 NCAA Championship Game”, “1999 Ryder Cup” and various other topics & athletes. Michael Husain was the writer/director.

Despite him being a nasally Boston homer and notorious Kobe hater for years, Ive always loved Bill because he's forward-thinker that wears his heart on his sleeve. He stayed true to himself and his career took a hit because of it, but at least he didn't sell his soul like most of the lame analysts on ESPN now. I miss his weekly email response column and what grant land could have been.

Bernie Wen I was thinking the same thing. It seemed like a trick to make him seem like he doesn't know what he's talking about by saying James Young is in the NBA. He's in and out of the G-League. Without looking it up right before going on air no sports fan or analyst would be expected to know that.

@specialwhenlit8435
@specialwhenlit8435 6 жыл бұрын
I really thought they were going to bring that up, but it's defensible I think. Bill was a "Ride or Die" fan with the Bird-McHale-Parish Celtics, not a huge surprise that he hated the KG-Pierce Celtics being broken up, at least in how he initially reacted to it right off the bat. He's a fan first and foremost, and he had a strong emotional connection to those guys, especially Pierce. I'm a Spurs fan, I'd have had the same initial reaction if "later years" Tony and Manu had been shipped off for future draft picks (though our front office has earned a whole lot of trust, and yeah that includes the Kawhi-Uncle Dennis drama).
