Bill played the Caffe Lena stage over 100 times, between 1967 and this performance in April. We will miss his voice and his presence here, and his timeless songs. We'll see you down the road, Bill - the next million miles. This place wouldn't be the same without you.

Seeing Bill was an annual event for my wife and me, dating back to the early 1980's. Missing him.

Bill sang so many beautiful songs with a simple guitar , and he wrote so many of these himself. He was a vastly more talented artist than those who sing instantly forgettable trash, but they sell millions. I love his song Ol Jack, it's about his fondness for an old mule his father had to do most of his farm work.and a way of life that is long gone. .Only Bill could write such an ingenious song. Regretfully I never got to,see him . Rest In Peace Bill , we may never see the likes of you again but we are most grateful for all the wonderful songs you left us.

The Classic Folk years of the 60s and 70s are a thing of the past. So much good music. The small venues... the folk festivals... the impromptu back stage concerts... meeting the artists... We are all aging, and when an icon like Bill Staines passes away... well, it's just a very sad day for any folkie. But at least we have the records, and I'll be playing mine till the end.

Just found this on You Yube thank you so much for putting it up. Several years ago was suggested by a friend to go to a Bill Staines concert. He immediately became my favorite folk singer and was lucky enough to see him live several times. Favorite venue was Del Rossi's in January several years in a row with my wife also a big fan. Had a chance to talk with him several times and count myself among his several thousand friends Cried when called for reservations at Del Rossi's for January concert and learned that he had passed away.

i probably should not comment tonight, this COVID-19 pandemic has me in the dumps. One of things that sustains me is Bill's music. The only time I heard him live was a concert at the Calgary Folk Club in the late 1970s in Calgary Alberta Canada. He played with Guy Van Duser and it was one of the high lights of my life and that of my wife Bonnie.. Down the years we have sung many of his songs, The Roseville Fair, The Lost Mine of the Chisos, My Sweet Wyoming Home to mention only a few, they have helped us cope with good times and bad. What is hard is not being able to be with our grandkids: they always want us to do some of Bill's songs. We always have to do his song "The Lost Mine of the Chisos" for them. They love it. Our youngest grandchild is now 6 and she insists we do it and all "God's Critters"; She calls it the "Porkypine One" Good Night and God Bless us every one!

Got to see Bill four times in a small venue at a church on Long Island. I've listened to his music for hundreds of hours. Got to hang out with him in the church kitchen each of those four years. The last time he was there a few years ago he had a wicked cold, but still made the trip down and did a great show. Glad he is a part of the experience of my life. Thanks, Bill, for moving me, and so many others. Peace............

Bill wrote the soundtrack for so many of our lives. My first date with my wife was a blind date set up at Bill's concert at the Me & Thee coffeehouse in 1972. Hard to imagine not being deligthed by new songs. The quaility of his music was consistent throughout his career. He touched the heart.

My mom was a volunteer in the kitchen and my dad was the door man (enforcer) for the first opening night of the Mee and Thee. I was 10 years old. I grew up with and still have scores of Bill's albums in the house. I saw him perform gads and got to hang out with him in the back room of the church before he went on (as a little tow headed kid). I have sang various Staines song to myself when lyrics were fitting. Yes he was truly a gifted tune Smith and consummate gentleman. I wept when I got the news of him passing. His lyrics helped shape my life outlook.

So happy to discover this concert as a final tribute to his incredible life as a songwriter and performer. Bill Staines has provided a soundtrack for my life having had all his records and CD's and seeing him perform on multiple occasions. His strong yet gentle voice has always touched my heart.

Nancy Griffith said it best : that he is our generation's Woody Guthrie. For so much of my life, his music was the soundtrack. I even got to see him live, and he signed one of my albums! There will never be another!

I grew up in Kyoto, Japan. My father was the music teacher at Kyoto International School where I went for middle school. Every Thursday he would sing for the whole school.. he always ended with River, as Bill Stains usually does. I now play it for my family and think of both my father and Bill when I sing it. Rest In Peace Bill. ❤️🙏

I wonder how many dogs greeted Bill "around the bend." I have to assume that when he cajoles "c'mon let me hear you" that he's continues to be somewhere listening when-and-wherever we join in. Always hoped to hear you live again someday, but I'm blessed by having seen you play Boston-area coffee houses, adding your self-effacing vignettes. Thanks for making this video available.

This video evokes so many precious memories. Besides the beloved well-known favorites, I was particularly taken with the brand new song Bill debuted at the 29-minute mark, about gripping the reins and never letting go. Does anyone know the title of this song, and whether it's been recorded subsequently?

I was lucky enough to open for him in OKC. Will truly miss him, but his music will always be with us, "Somewhere down the road" and "Like the wind in the autumn trees". It is so sad to listen to this and know that it is nowhere near his best singing.
