Code of Silence Merino Wool FareWinds Review | The Setup w/ Bill Winke

I have not had the chance to hunt in the new FareWinds line from Code of Silence, but I had the chance to wear it around the farm some. Here is a first impressions review of the key features of these Merino wool garments. I will update the review during the season once we start hunting.

Travis, thanks for the comment and the nice words. I think some of those channels get their subs through the short videos they produce. For some reason you can add subs really fast with shorts, but we haven't gone that route. In the end, I don't care as much about how many subs we have as long as we are connecting with people and offering useful information. I have always felt that you get rewarded in the media business if you help people - so that is our guiding principle. Have a great day.

I believe they are both XL. I am not at the farm right now so I can't check, but I think that is what they were. I am roughly 6-4, 6-5 and about 200 pounds if that helps. I think the pants were talls but not sure on the top. I would just call them. They are pretty good about helping with stuff like that. Good luck. www.codeofsilence.com/

I agree. The nice thing about Ev and his team is that it is a small company and they will listen to their customers. That is important when designing clothing for hunters. Ev also had many years as the main outerwear guy at Cabela's and that is serving him well now as he sources materials and designs. Good luck.

@@bill-winke I’d like to talk to Ev I’ve really tried for a few years now to figure out clothing cause here in the state of West Virginia where I hunt I have to ride a fourwheeler everywhere I go an it’s hard not to wear thick hunting clothing on the fourwheeler but when I get to where I hunt I have to wear it in an I burn up an sweat and then freeze so don’t get to hunt long

If anyone says Bill does whatever for sponsors or show case companies just for money is an idiot. EV use to to work at Cabelas and had worked with Bill during his time there. Bill uses what he believes in and that’s that. That’s why i love his content he’s all about learning and teaching. He works with people who have worked with him in the past and that makes his his show more entertaining. Good job Bill on this explanation of the new early season gear.

I am a long time fan of Bill Winke and will continue to be. I have been around long enough to see different sponsors of the exact same product(s) (i.e. food plot seed, broadheads, clothing, etc.). Although I am not directing this at Bill specifically, the "sponsor business model" is a challenging one when it comes to a "review". I think I would prefer it be called a "demonstration". When an individual or channel represents a product, the revenue is tied to increased sales of said item or items. Therefore, the sponsoring company would be none too pleased with a critical review from their paid client. In sum, as a consumer, it still bothers me that I have to be aware of the inherent bias -- it is not truly a 100% review. While it is true you can both really enjoy the product and represent it, the longevity of your belief should be in long term sponsorship. The one consistent sponsor with Bill has been Hoyt. I understand there are market factors beyond the sponsored individual, so I don't want to oversimplify. I enjoy learning about innovative new products and hope companies continue to create them. However, sponsorship is ultimately about marketing not true reviewing. It is about who is paying the bills, pardon the pun :)

Looks like quality gear. Been a predator camo die hard for years wish they would come out with some new stuff. Do like wool and found it to be the best late season for me

Jim, here is a link to that page: www.codeofsilence.com/collections/farewinds-active-tec-series I would say it is wind resistant but not truly windproof. It is a tight weave of wool, but doesn't have an outer or inner membrane so it relies on the wool to resist the wind. Good luck.

@@bill-winke yeah for sure! Last set I bought was 100 dollars for a bottom and jacket, these will last forever and there so much better! Been probably 10 yrs now I have had them and I never did like the pants and my jacket has seen better days! I will probably have to get me a set for a early Xmas present! I got me some UA bibs last year and I love them but I'm not crazy about bibs either!

What is merino wool, similar to standard wool, stays warm when wet?

Steve, yes. Comes from Merino sheep. Softer and not as itchy as regular wool. Ideal for clothing you wear closer to your skin.
