We had a really fun hunt on Halloween when I shot what I believe to be the biggest buck on the new farm. He was out early and put on a real show. Then Jordan has another hunt and finally we wrap up with a segment on how we planted oak trees from acorns on the marginal pasture land on this farm. Also, a quick recipe for bacon wrapped venison loin. Good luck this week, the colder weather should help to get them moving during daylight.

I am loving this more "raw" footage feel. The way most of us would film if we were just starting off. There is just something pure about it. Having a polished product is always amazing but this style hits home with so many and we are all excited to see that BBD Winke smile.

I truly enjoy your videos! I am really looking forward to seeing Jordan harvest her first deer with her Hoyt bow. I became a 'bowhunter only' at the age of 22 when I got my first buck with a bow (I'm 67 now). The excitement of getting that first buck with a bow will stay with me for the rest of my life, from that point on I couldn't enjoy hunting with a firearm. A few hundred deer, caribou, moose, hogs, turkeys, etc. later, I still get that thrill from all my work coming together. Keep up the good WORK with family and friends, it takes a lot of WORK to be LUCKY! Congrats on the nice buck, can't wait to see Jordan's, be safe and GOD bless.

Thanks Steve. I agree 100% The close range required for bowhunting is addictive. I think my timeline was very similar. I started bowhunting when I was 14 but it took me 10 years to kill my first deer. There weren't many back then and no one knew much about it. But once I killed him I was hooked for life.

Jahred, I have done it this way four other times. As long as the seeds are good (these were) and the planting conditions were good (again, we had perfect conditions) the seeds produced a ton of oak trees. I really like planting oaks this way. Much cheaper, faster and more natural than planting bare root stock trees. I have had very little success planting bare root stock, but direct seeding has worked well for me three out of four times. I hoping for four out of five. We will know for sure in April. Good luck.

Corey, it has been pretty crazy trying to get all this in place. It was a gift from God for that deer to do what he did on only my second sit. Before I owned land and wasn't producing a show, I could just hunt every day. Now, it seems the projects and editing/filming and business cut way into it. I guess it is true that if you love something, don't do it for a business! But, I knew what I was getting into. Good to share with our daughter, that is the main thing now.

Jay, in this market you take what you can find, but I really do like this farm. It is really pretty and has tons of potential. The more I learn about this area, the more I realize that the hunters here shoot pretty much anything that looks tempting and don't let any good looking younger bucks go. That will slowly change, but in the end, that is the key to the reaching this potential. I guessed at this since I knew several people in the area, but I bought it anyway. I am sure we can find at least one good mature buck to hunt each year. Good luck.

Always think about heritage. When u have land it's your obligation while it's yours to think about the future cuz nothing lasts forever. All good food plots need habitat but great habitat doesn't need to rely on a great food plot. I'm excited to see the project progress next spring in late May, early June when the days r long. It's a shame I won't be around to see the oaks when they're majestic. Keep livin right ✅️ 💯.

I'm sure I viewed this earlier but a mature buck is worth watching again. When it's ON it's ON. I believe when their guard is down it's not like the other 90% of days during the season. I just got done with a spring dispersal assessment on roadkill. I only witnessed one yearling buck but it was from a very old doe. This was the 3rd year in a row where she had just 1 fawn. Unfortunately the doe from 2 yrs ago was taken out in March & the buck which was much larger @ the same age last August was hit. This doe is an old MN Monarch but has a bad habit which takes out her fawns. In other areas I've seen younger doe hit & even traveling alone that havent been hit. A 3yr old buck & one that was about 5 or 6 were killed on a 4 lane county road a week apart within a mile of each other. We r in our 3rd year of drought with winter turning into summer with no spring. So I think that those 2 were just an anomalous freak of weather where conditions are some of the hottest & driest in the country 😮. Looking forward to those trees coming up. 😀

I prefer steak, but fresh fried chicken is better than cold steak. They will walk thru white oak to get to the fresh dropping black oak. I know you know there is a succession in when oak fall, even in years with a big white oak crop, they will even pass them to get fresh dropped scarlet oak. I really enjoy you new show.

I find this video interesting as I don't know where in Missouri your farm is located, but I was at my farm near Mark Twain Lake, in Missouri, and we have not seen any activity indicating that the rut is on. Near, but not on, at least in our area. I hunted for ten days and we saw a lot of "smalls", and my son saw one decent buck, but no shot. The rubs were just starting to appear on October 29th, with a few scrapes beginning to be opened. November 5th was our most active day. Sadly, I had to come home when it appears that things will be starting to crank up. I have a feeling that this rifle season, next weekend, is going to be CHAOS!!! Good luck everyone, and I hope Jordan shoots a biggie!

Lonnie, I am up in Northern Iowa, a long ways from you. I hope things get rolling for you there. Cold weather coming might help a bit. Good luck.

@@bill-winke For some reason I thought you had bought your new farm here in Missouri. That makes sense that your deer are so much more active than our's at this time. Sign is indicating that this coming weekend's firearms season will be terrific. I was just hoping to get the "big one" with my bow!

Congrats Bill, the look on your face after you shot that buck was priceless….good stuff as always, it’s been warm here in Ohio but it’s the rut so I’m in the tree everyday…thanks for sharing with us

Awesome 1st deer Bill. Love the bean and winter Rye mix, can’t go wrong there. Scored on a heavy 9 after that day and a half of rain finally blew through Iowa myself. Now what to do as the weather is finally getting good for the core of the rut...good problem to have I guess. Looking forward to more vids and Jordan getting that 1st buck!

Thanks Steven. It does look like it is finally going to get right- a bit late, I am afraid though. I need to move another blind out for Jordan. There is no way she is going to hunt from a tree when it's 20 degrees. I barely want to do that! Good luck late season.

@@bill-winke Bill have you considered adding any hybrid varities? Check out concordia oaks. Missouri conservation used to sell them. Its a natural occuring 3 way hybrid between swamp white, chinquapin and dwarf chinquapin. I have one grown from seed thats dropping acorns at 4 years old. Dwarf chinquapins are so cool too! My favorite little trees. An start dropping acorns at 3 years old in Missouri! The wildlife group out of alabama would be a great resource for you for seed. Allen is great to deal with. You should consider teaming up with them. Would be an awesome sponsor for your show
