What. A. Band! The restraint shown by the band to not muddy it up with unnecessary notes is so badass. THAT’s funk. James Brown was the master, but Bill Withers is right there with him. Phenomenal version!

The drummer, James Gadson is a living legend. He played with Bill, Marvin Gaye,Aretha Franklin, Herbie Hancock, The Temptations and so much more. Closer to us he played with Beck, Justin Timberlake, Vulfpeck, D'Angelo. Living legend !

Hell yes. Gadson is so deep in pocket during this session he's practically bending timespace.

YES!!!!! This song is so sexy; LOVE Bill Withers! Dad had the album. "Brother, if you only knew, you would wish you were in my shoes" 🔥 Bill Withers was a phenomenal talent; Got to listen to "Ain't No Sunshine"; a perfect song. Great one, Veronica!

The studio version is a whole new piece, the slower pace, this voice, the isolation of the bass guitar, the paed-down purity of the drums. Did they know then what geniuses they were then, what a work of art they were creating?

Can we just have a moment of silence for the level of cool the drummer has?? These guitar riffs? Besides Bills vocals that you only have to listen fir 5-6 seconds and you know who it is? Very distinct tone. You always knew a bill withers Song. And soul oozing out of this one. Advice go listen to ‘who is he’ and ‘ain’t no sunshine’. An education on how to deliver a song with meaning.
