This wave is so unique. Amazing. It has the whole ocean mass behind it. It's like a deadly plateau of H20. Hey that rhymes, i'm Teahupoo poet.

The energy from the wave transfers to make a nice wall of water as it moves from deep water to a shallow level reef.

those waves have so much force, i went surfing on small waves and they slam you into the bottom, you would be so screwed if a big wave crashed on you
@juskickenit215 жыл бұрын
To answer your reef question, It not necessarily the reef that makes it a good condition but instead the slope or the angle that the reef provides. As a small wave comes from the ocean and crosses a reef, the depth is affected. Which causes a great deal of friction on the lower part of the wave, while the friction or speed of the top of the wave continues at the same rate. Causing a curl or a large face which is ideal for surfing.

The really big waves lurk off the southern California coast, 100 miles out of San Diego at the Cortes Bank. Here, a 17-mile underwater mountain range comes to a head 3 feet below the surface at a spot called Bishop Rock. This place has been known to ocean-going ship captains and fishermen for years. The waves at Cortes Bank signal danger on the underwater rocks and are so big they show up on radar. Check it out- 100 foot waves on a lucky day.

they are breaking right over a coral reef, that and the added incoming swell and you have a recipe for massive waves. if you look at aerial shots of teahupoo it literally looks like a big bowl.

these waves are insane. they're very cylindrical, because there is a large area of shallow reefs near the shore that break them up suddenly and violently. maybe the hardest in the world to ride. i'm scared just seeing them!

i dont even think there is a word for the amount of pain that you would feel if you fell off that wave lol

I envy people who live cole to such a beauty. for instance, I'm from Russia and I have no chanse to taste myself to surve - it's my old dream. so, offshore settlers, save your nature and your ocean
@TheSSDrift13 жыл бұрын
@banksyrocks1 yes actually. Teahupo'o is one of the most dangerous breaks because it's a shallow reef. known as the worlds "heaviest surf", this wave is incredibly thick and if the weight of the wave crashing on you isn't enough to knock the air out of you, it will be knocked out when that weight throws you into the reef below. this wave is by NO means for the novice or amateur surfer. pros only. even on a small day.
