I wanted to report that we used it for the rest of 2021/2022 winter with no issues. Not sure it will be a permanent fix but at least we made it through this year. I will update when we use it again next winter.

@@raymencaldwell3854 Too bad yours became a real fireplace. See my findings below. This flamer shaft coupler issue can very well cause a fire once it burns the grease up in the motor gearbox. Sooner or later, this plastic tube zip tie coupler is going to kill someone. Dangerous!!!

Thanks for the video. Being not one for unsolved mysteries, I have pinpointed one of the true reasons for this behavior. It wasn't a very cold day when I went out to find the fireplace flashing the "88" code. I reset the breaker in the fusebox. The fireplace came on for 3 seconds and faulted again. I was standing next to it and smelled an odor that was very much like burning electronics, but not exactly. I took the top cover off. The heater fan on top spun free and up close, did not have the smell on it. So I then took the back cover off and found another motor that turns a shaft, making the pretty flame display. I smelled the motor and it had that faint burnt smell. It was not burnt electronics, but the smell of burning grease inside the motor gearbox. It is really similar. The motor shaft is coupled to another shaft with reflective fingers with a flexible plastic tubing secured on one end with a zip tie(really???) and the other end with a pinch retainer. If you use a bright flashlight on this coupler, you will find a small gap between the shaft ends. The shafts must be touching. If there is a gap between them it can cause a bind issue whereas the plastic tubing twists, overloading the motor and causing a fault. Remove the gap by squeezing the pinch retainer and moving it towards the motor, leaving it free. Using some needle nose pliers, work the plastic tubing and move the flamer shaft towards the motor until both ends of the shafts are touching. Squeeze the pinch retainer and reseat it near the outer end of the motor shaft. Then test it to ensure it is working again. Instead of using a real shaft coupler, Furrion has made a homemade cheap coupler which is almost guaranteed to fail over time. One would think that if Furrion took the time to secure the cover with the "1200 screws", they would also have used a real shaft coupler on the flamer shaft. Hope this helps someone!

@@BillandKelleyAdventures Although I love this Forest River XLR RV, it was made during the pandemic and it seems the quaility of the build and some of the components are not up to par. I've had to replace the furnace, leaf spring, toilet valve, shower access door, the oven is out, and now the fireplace is broken. I have had it for a little over 2 years. Are they all like this or did I get unlucky?

Thank you for posting the tutorial - We have a brand new Jayco Eagle 28.5 and I attempted to turn on the fireplace in extremely cold weather and got the same code. My thought is that it was so cold something in the fan mechanism contracted and the fan stuck. I followed your example, removed the fireplace insert from the cabinet, stuck a small screwdriver in the grate and spun the fan, and now it seems fine. Thank you again for the help!

This is actually a REALY easy fix. The fireplace shuts off because it over heated. The simple fix is just to unplug the fireplace from the outlet, leave it off for 20 minutes, and then plug it back in. Many will think that they fixed it by cleaning the fan and or sensor but in most cases it was simply fixed by unplugging the unit. When the unit overheats it wont reset itself unless its unplugged. Simply turning the unit off at the switch on the fireplace will not work. The unit needs to be unplugged from the outlet in order to give it a chance to cool down and reset.

I think the fan motor isn’t functioning properly and draws too much energy to turn on which trips the sensor and causes the code. I blew the dust out of mine and it ran once. Then the next day trip the code again again

There are 4 screws that go in from the top at an angle you remove those then pick up on the front to remove that piece. Then you can get to the rest of the screws.

@BillandKelleyAdventures
@BillandKelleyAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct that is the correct term but not many people know that. My (Kelley’s) dad owned a hardware store and I’ve worked for on more than 30 years. Although the terms "square drive" and "Robertson" are often treated as the same in catalogs, the difference (as I understand it) is that Robertson tools and screws have a slight taper to the square recess and the square drive ones do not. Most online sources claim that the tapered design is superior. You can use either they both work.
