Is it better to be on the tighter or looser end of the valve lash spec for stock parts. toyota gives you a range vs just a set number to shoot for unlike an aftermarket cam.

With lash, to loose you know it, to tight everyone knows it. Tightness creates less room for oil. Less room for oil creates failures.

Should we use the moly grease on the cams when measuring the bucket to lobe clearance?

When you say "if you hear the duck" at 7:10 is this a constant sound due to the lack of oil? I occasionally hear something that could be described as a duck quack when shutting my engine off after it has come to temp. It has "drop in" cams but this may be related to the head not being clearanced like you mentioned. Plenty of lube on install (driven lube used in video). Plenty of oil in the head while idling (looking through fill cap).

the duck sound would be from no lube usually at engine stand, not running. And not using the correct lube at install. I would say check lash first, and work your way down. It definitely shouldn't be making noise like that

How much clearance is required to keep oil on the lobes?

Is clearencing recommended for the gsc s1 cam in the ge vvti head?

Yes, those VVTI heads are tight to the cam!

@@RichardM479 absolutely. The cores are all over the place. So, they don't hit but are super close. And some are closer than others and will cause a failure. That is not a drop in.
