Chilly Gonzalez popped up in my spotify recommendations bundled with several classical composers, and many of his songs were quickly added to my personal playlists. I assumed he was a dead classical musician from the first half of the 20th century. I am now discovering he's alive AND he's got a sense of humor, and I couldn't be more excited

AND his earlier work is the polar opposite of what you probably came across and not at all what you'd expect. AND I saw him at The Roundhouse in London a few years back, so definitely alive :)

Twenty years ago when I worked at a book store, my manager in the warehouse was formerly the manager of a locally famous music store. One day he tossed The Entertainist by Chilly to me and said he bought it but it wasn't his speed and he thought I might like it. I listened to it a bunch of times and loved it, but within a couple years I had gotten out of music. Was thinking about him a while back and searched for him, hoping he hadn't died from an OD or something, and I find that he blew up in a very unexpected way. So cool.

1:00 "But as she adds notes, those are on offbeats."
