@@michaelhawkins7389 Hard disagree. Better hooks, better lyrical material, better style diversity and flow, every single song a banger on the first album. her second album was such a sellout move, too poppy, lyrics just focusing on trashy love songs without much finesse, like she wasn't the one writing almost. With this album it was a little better but not by much.
@michaelhawkins73897 ай бұрын
@@aqlord That is your personal opinion.... and actually no , it has a call back to the 1950s with some late 90s vibes in couple of the songs , with some of the themes , and music Happier then ever is her best song. adds rock elements to it as well. the album has more layers then you think. That is why is was praised, highly.

Aah, it`s my favourite. Because there are so many different styles delicately used , on that album. It`s deep , it`s fun. And i enjoy her actual kind of singing. Without expecting good vocal techniques at all.

Billie has most definitely been consistently releasing quality albums and Hit me hard & soft continues on the trajectory it blends & mixes more so of up tempo, Britpop and her vocal inflections are enchanting to hear & digest especially on the songs. LUNCH, CHICHIRO, Birds of a feather the whole tracklist flows so smoothly. Really like the guitar strings on here as well. Believe When we all fall asleep is my most replayable of the project. Cannot wait to see where she goes next.

I was lucky enough to listen to this album for the first time on the Thursday before it dropped at the Dolby theater event she was doing at select AMC's, and man that was it a great first listening experience. Hearing THAT part of The Greatest for the first time was nothing short of transcendent and will probably continue to be one of my favorite moments in any of her songs, period. I loved hearing her belt out a bit more after getting a smaller taste of that side of her on HTE. She's such a great singer and I hope to hear her experiment with her voice even more in the future! And of course props to Finneas who went CRAZY on the production here!

Billie has been my favorite artist since ocean eyes. Her music has always stood out to me and got me through some dark periods in my life. She seems so much more authentic, charismatic and polished than anyone else in the industry. She always brings something new to the table and I never get bored - nor does my excitement for new material ever dwindle. She continues to impress me with her talent, proves that she is capable of singing pretty much any genre, and only vastly improves each album. While I adore her light, breathy tone, I am so proud that she's expanding her range. To close things out, I agree that this is 100% her best album and for me, THE GREATEST is not only my favorite song on there but my new #1 favorite from her - and I never thought HTE could be topped. I'm giving this a solid 5 because I truly can't pinpoint a single flaw. Everything blends and transcends beautifully. Great review!

Lunch, Chihiro, and L’Amour De Ma Vie are 100% bops but Birds of a Feather takes the cake for me. I couldn’t wait to get back to that track after I finished it the first listen. To me it sounds like it has Paramore remnants and could have been on an album like After Laughter. I was so taken aback by how different it sounds from anything Billie has done but in such a good way and really shows her vocal abilities. This album is probably my favorite of the year so far. So much so I bought the album immediately after I listened to it something I have never done before!

This album is ear candy. Like her other albums are more experimental and more over the top but this one is just freaking ear candy. Billie voice has gotten to god tier levels and it’s insane on this album. Her lyrics as well she has become a god tier lyric writer and Finneas had become a literally god tier producer he was always amazing but omg he got better like to the point where he needs to win producer of the year at Grammies. This is the best album of the year and my fav Billie album. Her others are incredible as well.

Prior to release, Billie was vocal about wanting to put on an album that truly FELT like an album. One cohesive piece that is clear from start to finish. I absolutely think that they delivered. That’s my favorite part of this album. There’s a consistent thread that holds all the songs together rather than the album just being a collection of songs. I think in the current state of mainstream music, it’s hard to pull this off but it is very much needed. A great album to just put your headphones on, lay back and take it all in. CHIHIRO, Birds of a Feather, and L’Amour De Ma Vie are my personal favorites.

Ok. I will agree that I don't go back to Happier Than Ever as much as I'd want to admit. But it still is a fire album, and better than her debut. However, this one has NO SKIPS. I love this project! It's her best by far and I don't even dislike her other work. Love that she's going against the current and actually prioritazong a full album experience. One that actually makes sense to drop the entire thing all at once. And it's true, I can't see a worthy single outside of LUNCH. Maybe THE DINER but idk what else. But I see we still feel different about the project. You said up until THE DINER they're all top tier songs, which I totally agree with, but don't leave SKINNY out of the conversation. It's an amazing intro and prob my fav out of any of her projects, if we don't count bad guy as the one from her debut. Also you said all that and you didn't even mention the best 2 songs on there BIRDS OF A FEATHER and L'AMOUR DE MA VIE??? The 1st one is my fav and one of her best songs imo. One that's straight to the point, with beatiful singing from Billie and production from FINNEAS. And the 2nd one is longer but for great reasons. I'd admit that even tho the 2 parts flow well maybe they could've done great as well on their own. Tho I do still preffer the whole song than let's say the extended version of OVER NOW. The last leg of the LP might be my least fav part but still, there's so much to unpack on those songs that I can't say at all that they aren't top tier in terms of performance, structure and production. They may run for a bit too long but they do build up nicely and transition greatly from one another. And btw that last leg includes THE DINER, which was my least fav but ended up growing on me. For me it's a 4.5/5

Disagree on Skinny. Great song, masterfully sets the whole theme of the album about her broken love story. She said the drums are her drummer. Wildflower is a Grower! It may connect to La Amour song. I think there are more references to the gf (hands on shoulder) of Jessie R. A few songs are about girl love but most of the love story seems to be about Jessie. I think she really loved him. Beautifully crafted album..

On the way home from a 448 mile round trip and after hearing "Hit Me Hard and Soft" several times and wondering how to relate WWAFAWDWG to that or HTE to it - I listened to the former [ WWAF and thought to myself - 17 year old Billie DOES NOT take a back seat to 22 year old Billie - Finneas shines in this latest album as does Billie, but I wouldn't say it's better. And Billie - does Billie ever share as intimately with us as 15 year old Billie in "idontwannabeyouanymore" or 21 year old Billie in the GRAMMY/OSCAR winning "What Was I Made For?" I'm sure you know that the last song "Blue" incorporates part of a song "true blue" that 14 yr. old Billie wrote years ago. But I can't say that I think it's better than WWAFAWDWG - playful Billie sharing a song like "Bad Guy" or jazzy "Xanny" or "Listen Before I Go" . And HTE grew on me, too but it's third behind the other two and several songs on DSAM are terrific - "idontwannabeyouanymore" is one of Billie's best ever. Also, Jon - if you were ever going to give a 5, I think this one deserved a 5. Does anybody else put out music like Billie & Finneas?

Not sure why the Guitar Songs EP was such a limited run. I would have ordered that but it was nearly impossible to find. Odd, because both of those tracks were amazing. Other than a few tracks deliberately going for a big pop hit, this new album is much better than her last, imho. I think she's better off not trying to be Dua Lipa or Ariana Grande and stays in the darker singer-songwriter lane. Skinny, Chichiro, The Greatest and Blue are all so good.

Don't get me wrong, I think this album is great (a solid 8/10), but it's easily my least favorite of hers. I love that there are some retro sounding moments, and the song writing in general is very strong. However, I'm a little disappointed in how ballad heavy this album is. I know as an Eilish fan you should expect a lot of that sort of stuff, but I've grown a bit tired of musicians releasing albums stuffed with slower songs. I also wasn't a big fan of Happier Than Ever when it was first released, but it quickly became my favorite. So, my opinion on this one could also drastically change. Highlights for me are; The Diner, Lunch, Chihiro, and L'amour De Ma Vie (love the vocal delivery on this one).

[July 31, 2024]Jon, you strike me as a fine fellow who loves music but with respect to Billie and Finneas, you actually don't know excellence when you are hearing it - this isn't better than WWAFA - they aren't in competition - 17 yr. Billie isn't competing with 21/22 yr old Billie. And WWAFA's placement on Apple's list of 100 greats is where it's at for a reason - there aren't other artists like them; there are other great POP artists - Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. but if you don't hear the uniqueness and rarity of their gifts - Billie and Finneas's the problem is with your hearing - it isn't just a matter of taste - you could like all kinds of music better than theirs and rightfully so, but not recognizing that they aren't just one more drop in the bucket is a mistake - in about 30 years you'll look back and maybe, it will become clear to you then. Think of all the BOND SONGS and BOND SONGWRITERS and 17 yr. old Billie writing "NO TIME TO DIE" - JON, can you imagine yourself or anybody you know doing that? Or GRETA GERWIG, director of the BARBIE movie, telling Billie and Finneas, she really needs BARBIE's heart song - and 21 year Billie and her 25 yr brother writing it and the ACADEMY at the OSCARS giving them a standing ovation because they recognize its rarity - and you don't know it JON? Think about it - FINNEAS turned 27 on July 30; I'm NOT convinced that he or Billie are geniuses or brighter than others e.g. Jack Antonoff or Taylor - my point is - they hear things differently, uniquely ... personally I don't believe it's related to I.Q. - maybe it is their synesthesia or a combination of nature and nurture [home schooling, isolaton from typical social communities - school, church, synagogue, sports, etc] - but they are not in the same pocket/mold. I'm 70 - this is. obviously my opinion - PINK FLOYD - e.g. "Comfortably Numb" is almost beyond critique; Mozart's REQUIEM [even though he didn't complete all of it] is divine; Beethoven - think of what he composed DEAF; Gershwin's RHAPSODY IN BLUE - in my mind there is no AMERICAN PIECE greater than than. OR THE MOMENT OF INSPIRATION behind Samuel Barber's "ADAGIO for STRINGS" - there ARE RARE moments - or expression - and emoting through music.
