'My future' is about getting out of a toxic relationship one can have with self, the relationship Billie has definitely had with herself. The song can be both visually and musically parted into two sections. The first one represents the relationship itself. Calling herself a mirror is undoubtedly a reference to her old self and her old music through which she used to and still does express herself. Let's look back to the sad yet beautiful Idontwannabeyouaymore phase and the music video, which the mirror could easily be a reference to. She is leaving the mirror, the feelings she had towards herself, today she does want to be herself and she's in love with her future(self). The second half of the song represents her growth over the years and the state she's currently at. She's her own answer, she's the happiest she has ever been and the music video follows her feelings. Now the song goes down one unexpected path and it's the path of 'I know better than to drive you home, cause you'd invite me in and I'd be your again'. It gets me wondering, what if Billie isn't talking about her-old-sad-self, but about her fame instead? Being so successful, yet so young is hard and toxic. Billie might have written the whole song about her toxic life of being famous and finally breaking free from it. She knows that if she came back to the stage, the joy of performing and the fandom, she would easily fall in love again (the previous lyrics explained), but at what cost? Billie says she's in love but not with anybody here, she will see us in a couple of years. Billie might have decided to quit or take a break and is letting us know through the song. Whichever of the two is true, I'm proud of Billie for becoming the person she is. I love her from the bottom of my heart and I want her to be happy and healthy, and if taking a break is what I takes, she has deserved it. Let me know which explanation makes more sense to you.

I think the “I’ll see you in a couple years” is talking to herself, she is excited to see herself in a couple years. The problem she had, was that she hated being famous, she hated the tour, she hated everything. Right now she feels better, she likes being famous and was really exited for the tour. The video also represents that she is ready to grow now, and she wasn’t back then. She has said a lot of times that she needed to be in a relationship, and she finally can be on her own, without having her eye on anyone. For example the songs says “ I’d like to be your answer” but she can’t right now, because she needs to get to know herself and that’s why she knows better, she referenced the word “home” in a lot of her songs, i think it can a synonym of a sad place, like in lovely “Welcome home” or in When the party is over “Quiet when I’m coming home” and that’s why she knows better than drive this person to a sad place (home). It’s also a little reference to her brother songs but i don’t it’s relative ( in his song “Claudia” he says, “i’d love to drive you home” and in let’s fall in love for the night “I know better than to call you mine)

I think that it is about loving one self (or herself and liking who she is becoming) but she could be singing to someone, like she can't be with this person now, because she is busy or interested in knowing herself ,her more mature self, in learning how to love herself first, and she knows better than to take this handsome home, because then she will lost in the relationship, and not having time to invest in herself, so when she is ready to love someone else (because she would already love herself) she would, therefore the phrase I see you in a couple years, to this handsome person, also handsome in English isn't meant only for men?

You two have quickly become one of my fav reactors!!!!!!!!!! I literally get excited for when u react to stuff!! I would recommend some Melanie Martinez songs as her lyrics are very good. People would say react to her songs in album order but I know u don’t do albums so literally react to any song. I’d recommend ‘Mrs Potato Head’ or ‘Sippy Cup’
