Of course Ocean Eyes etc are brilliant songs, she's a great singer, and Finneas is a talented producer. But I'm really disappointed with the new album. For me, complacency has set in. Standards have dropped.

I feel that way too. BUT, I haven't listened to it enough either. Just a quick run through on 5 or so songs. Doesn't sound good to me. I thought the differences of the songs on happier than ever, and the instrument playing (Finneas) for example was beautiful. All I read are people saying how good it is. I hope I feel that way after listening more. So far it all kind of sounds the same and like you say, a little complacent. Their first two albums were just SO FANTASTIC in so many ways. The chance of the third album being as good, would be pretty unusual. I am older though (60) and maybe all the rave reviews are from the kids that maybe aren't' quite as objective. Their first two albums were really amazing.
