This was a TV broadcast on the Martha Raye Show< New York. Date was October 29th 1956. She also sang My Man.

+Kevin Bowen Are you sure it was 1956? Billie didn't record this until 1958 and her voice wasn't this thin in 1956.

+TGTSTS I've checked 3 sources, Phil Schaapp's WKCR Billie Holiday Festival Handbook which states it was October 27, 1956 at the Olivia Davis' Patio Lounge: Washington, D.C and Jack Millar's discography called "Fine and Mellow" which gives the same details. Another source also said it was on the Martha Raye Show of October 29th 1956. see www.billieholidaysongs.com/live_songs.htm Her health did fluctuate during this period.

My friend also says there's a clip of Billie and Ella singing duets together at the Newport Jazz Festival in 57, but I've never found that clip. Billie and Ella were friends dating back to their Harlem days, but I really seriously doubt they'd sing duets together at a major jazz festival. They've been known to be competitive and Ella's popularity only grew as time went on.

The description says not in good voice but I still think she sounds great. Sure her voice is a lil gravelly and she is definitely having some difficulty hitting the notes she needs but I think these elements only add depth to this performance. She was one of a kind. Only she could pull it off.

+Arron413 All sources I have checked give the same date as October 27th 1956....So far I have checked on 4 sources for this information. I have read that Billie knew this song prior to recording it for "Lady in Satin." I agree that her voice does sound thin on this recording.
