I from Nigeria and we have a really bad electricity supply problem, almost every household uses generators which exhumes lot of carbon monoxide into the air and, sometimes, kills an entire family. Can the CNN crew please reach out to the inventor to introduce the light powering machine to the Nigeria market. thanks.

So i just read a forbs article on it. It holds about as much caffeine as a large starbucks coffee, but more then that the vitamins that are in it are designed to cause blood circulation and energy. So its definitely one of the best energy drinks you can get, just dont go chasing it with more coffee or redbulls or monsters, it can legit be dangerous. But every time you buy 1 you are giving this man more money to help the world as a whole, definitely the best energy drink to spend your money on.

The math is all bad. The bike will generate about 100 watts while being ridden hard by a healthy rider. Doing this for 5 minutes will generate about 8.33 watt hours. Using that over 24 hours gives us about one third of a watt, if we have a battery that can store it and give it back with 100% efficiency. (We don't)

Bike to generate energy is one of the most stupid idea ever. A typical 250W PV panel that costs less than $200 will produce as much energy as two or three fit people on two or three of those bikes. So a person will need to pedal for 4 to 5 hours a day for the next 25 to 35 years and produce as much energy as a less than $100 worth of solar PV panel will do over the same period.
@electrodacus7 жыл бұрын
You need cables and battery with the bike also and bike is probably more expensive than PV panel. A professional athlete can not sustain more than 200W for a few minute. So assuming this best case then you get about 16.6Wh in 5 minutes of intense pedaling and that is good enough to fully charge a smarphone or to power a very small 2W LED light for 8h. Most people will probably need to pedal intensely for 10 minutes to get the same amount of energy. A 250W PV panel can do the same while sitting in the sun for 5 minutes. If that rural household has such a low energy demand probably just some low power LED lights and a radio not much more at 0.2kWh/day based on the athlete pedaling for one hour a day. Same amount of energy can be produced by just a 50W panel in an average day outside and that can cost probably less than $40 So comparison here is between the bike (not sure the cost) + one hour per day intense exercise vs a single $40 PV panel that can do this for the next 25 to 50 years (the bike and the person will probably not last more than the panel for sure). I'm an EE and I design solar equipment you can see my youtube channel. I understand well this numbers. I also live offgrid and my house is fully powered by solar and soon even the heating (in Canada) will be provided 100% by PV panels. We do not even use horses anymore for their energy so not sure why someone will want to enslave humans to generate that insignificant amount of energy.
@electrodacus7 жыл бұрын
The idea is that whatever else is needed in therms of storage will be the same in both case and what is different is as I mentioned on one side a $40 PV panel and on the other side the bike and generator + the work human needs to do every day. The physical work alone of one hour workout each day for the next 25 to 50 years is not worth just $40 the cost of the PV panel. Human energy is just to valuable to be used lighting up an LED light.
@electrodacus7 жыл бұрын
Even if there is less sun there will still be solar energy. The most overcast day at my location will still produce about 5 to 10% of what a full sunny day will. I have an extremely energy efficient house that I designed and build and I use 3x 240W panes plus a 2.5kWh LiFePO4 battery that provides me with an average of 60kWh/month enough for all my appliances including electric cooking. The sort of power consumption they where talking about is good for a small LED light and a laptop working about 8h/day nothing else that is about 10x less energy than my house uses so my small system can power 10 of those house. A lot of athletes and a few of those bikes running for hours will be needed to power my small efficient house. When I will also fully heat my house I will need to increase the PV array to 10kW (battery will remain the same size) since energy for heating will be stored in a much more inexpensive thermal mass storage. If you are curious about my system check my current Kickstarter www.kickstarter.com/projects/electrodacus/digital-mppt-and-solar-bms-for-a-net-zero-energy-h and see the first pdf presentation there.
@electrodacus7 жыл бұрын
As long as there is day even if sun completely obscured by clouds there will still be energy produced by solar PV panel and quite significant amount as mentioned before. Thus even if is overcast for months a PV panels will still be more cost effective by large margins. Say you oversize the PV array 10x so 500W instead of the 50W panel that will do the same as you pedaling for a few hours a day. Say for the next 30 years x 365 days you pedal 4h a day to produce as much as a 50W panel in relatively sunny location or 500W panel in completely overcast locations and that 500W panel cost $400 probably same as the bike (but say bike is free so you just need to pedal). 30years x 365 days x 4h = 43800 hours of pedaling and now $400/43800 = 0.9 cent/hour so a bit less than 1 cent per hour is what I will pay you to pedal for me so I do not need to get the panels :) and also bike is free. Is just not comparable. Bike to generate power is as I mentioned a realy bad idea.
@rejuvenatingsoul3498 Жыл бұрын
A solar panel is a commodity in poor countries, they could get stolen, plus if its monsoon, you're out of electricity for couple of months. Also solar panels requires installation, a trained person and technical labour is expensive in poor countries. With these bikes, you can distibute them 20 villages a day, with solar, you have to visit each household, which gets expensive overtime.
