its 100 percent economics, you see rich people or really anyone with knoledge needs to store their wealth in an asset that either produces wealth or keeps its value, houses and toasters, keep their value. the dollar usa currency is dyng an horrible death to it being not backed by anything, its fake money. but it looses buying power yearly on top of it. they want 2 percent a year, but its more, so if you keep money in bank, it will 20 percent less in 10 years. year by year it goes down, just for exsisting, so you have billions, lets buy a ton of houses, so the bank does not rob us.. the upkeep factor keeps the value and as well renting it actually produces income. so your money doing nothing but sitting in a house that needs to be maintained, is actually generating wealth.

Sadly you don’t know what you’re talking about. I live in Southern California and my home is worth $1 million dollars and my mother lives in New Jersey and her house is worth $125,000……yet we pay roughly the same amount in property taxes.

@Joe G Well you’re right in a way about property taxes, thanks to Howard Jarvis and prop 13, which caps them at a reasonable rate for now. It’s the other wealth taxes which are liable to go much higher. With all his billions I’m sure that Schmidt has nothing to worry about but the middle class is getting squeezed to death in Cali. I was just making a point.
