Outspoken billionaire Rob Hersov, together with businessman Nick Ferguson, are making a R2bn public offer to the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) to acquire 6 South African airports.
Hersov and Ferguson, co-founders of RSA.aero, are prepared to snap up 100% stakes - or at least majority controlling shares - of the East London, George, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley and Upington airports.
As part of the proposed deal, the pair say they are not looking to acquire OR Tambo Airport (Johannesburg), King Shaka (Durban) or Cape Town International.
"We have made an offer of R2bn, fully funded, to buy a controlling share in the regional airports, and even keep ACSA on as a minority partner. We will further invest many billions in making these regional airports viable and relevant, boosting local economies, creating jobs and supporting aviation," Hersov told the Nielsen Network.
The announcement by Hersov and Ferguson to snap up these 6 airports comes after they recently acquired the Fisantekraal Airport, just outside of Cape Town. The businessmen have converted the airport into the Cape Winelands Airport and aim for it to ultimately become the ‘Lanseria Airport of the Western Cape’.
