Outspoken billionaire Rob Hersov, together with businessman Nick Ferguson, are making a R2bn public offer to the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) to acquire 6 South African airports.
Hersov and Ferguson, co-founders of RSA.aero, are prepared to snap up 100% stakes - or at least majority controlling shares - of the East London, George, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley and Upington airports.
As part of the proposed deal, the pair say they are not looking to acquire OR Tambo Airport (Johannesburg), King Shaka (Durban) or Cape Town International.
"We have made an offer of R2bn, fully funded, to buy a controlling share in the regional airports, and even keep ACSA on as a minority partner. We will further invest many billions in making these regional airports viable and relevant, boosting local economies, creating jobs and supporting aviation," Hersov told the Nielsen Network.
The announcement by Hersov and Ferguson to snap up these 6 airports comes after they recently acquired the Fisantekraal Airport, just outside of Cape Town. The businessmen have converted the airport into the Cape Winelands Airport and aim for it to ultimately become the ‘Lanseria Airport of the Western Cape’.

I live in he US and I have to agree. There’s more potential in South Africa than here. It’s very difficult to do business in America now . Extremely difficult. You have a regime in government with a dumbass as a so called President that closes doors wherever he goes . Countries do not want to deal with the US because of its untrustworthy stigma .

@Rob , Nick and Team, I commend you for being open to partner or propose a stake offer of 20% for PIC for example. I have confidence in well structured private partnership, where everyone knows their role to play, professionally and towards the growth of the Business as opposed to unleashing Cadre deployees to do nothing but milk the same government. While in the process of negotiations, please do spare a thought for a South African Citizens share in the pie. I foresee a brighter and sustainable future for the Country when Citizens of this Country are included in the pie. If sustainability is end goal, I'm happy to further advise. 😊

Maybe if there is something in it for them. What I want to know is how do you and your partner know these airports are the ones that are going to be profitable. Ja you said in the interview a toss of the coin. But a true business man doesnt give his true secrets away. And the locations must be right for flight schools and private aircrafts. Something or some kind of chatter is convincing you that S.A.'s economy is going to go well in the future.

Pravin is selling a controlling shareholding of SAA (our national airline) to Tankatso Consortium for a mere US$200m to be paid over a period of unspecified years. You on the other hand want to buy all regional airports of South Africa for a mere US$116m which I am sure will not be paid for in cash upfront, all based on the promises of job creation and bringing better management. You are gravely mistaken sir to think that anyone with a bag full of (borrowed) cash and a mouth full of promises will be allowed to buy key national assets and infrastructure for peanuts and use them to print money for themselves and their families for generations. You are driven by greed and the need to dominate and industry just like your fellow billionaire friends. Focus on your Cape-wine airport project and be content with the benefits your family and associates will receive.

Regardless of all challenges regional airports if utilized fully depending of strategies they have foreseen. This will increase buying power through jobs they will create. Which will increase air travel usage buy same employees and general public. Yes they will make big investment. More to this the airports will be closer to people.
