Great video. I'm new to Mathematica and am taking a nonlinear dynamics, chaos and fractals course and these beginner tutorials are extremely helpful. Thanks so much.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, I probably won't be making more ODE videos until January of 2015 (only 3 are posted at the moment). Too busy at the moment with other things.

How would you do this if your function was, say, y' = t^2 +y ?
@jamesbaldwin7169
@jamesbaldwin7169 3 жыл бұрын
nvm, you just need to type y[t] in the function

I prefer in odes an implicit solution, which mathematica doesn't seem to give (or I'm unaware of it)

I'm not aware of a way to get it in implicit form either. Though if you can get it in implicit form by hand, you can then use ContourPlot to plot the resulting implicitly-defined curve.

Bill Kinney I made up 2 small " programs" - Just a few lines really, where you have the ic's and you get the implicit form since the input of one line depends on the previous lines output. It's so cool! I love doing Exact equations that way too, and contourplot is great for seeing different ic's and values of the constant. Thanks for the post! Great video.

I got this error when I inputted the same for the initial value problem. DSolve::deqn: Equation or list of equations expected instead of False in the first argument {(y^\[Prime])[t]==t^2,False}. >>

+inteusproductions Send me a screenshot of your code with the error at billkinneymath@gmail.com and I'll see if I can figure out what's wrong with it.

It means one of your variables for your initial condition is already preset to a value. math.stackexchange.com/questions/96563/error-when-using-mathematica-to-solve-differential-equation

I'm not sure why you lost them. If it's not too much to do, maybe you could just retype them?
