Billy Cobham is like a fine wine...he just gets better with age. He has been my drum hero since I was 12 years old. I am in my 60's now oh and p.s. he is one of the nicest people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting. I am so glad when someone you have admired turns out to be a person deserving of such admiration

I agree. I’ve met him. Attend his shows anytime I can. What I really like is that he showcases talent. I’ve followed him from Mahavishu days.

That touch Billy has! If you aren't a drummer, you just don't know how difficult that is - and to always stay in the pocket.

Tomorrow, May 16th 2024 is Billy's 80th birthday! Tomorrow happens to be my birthday too! So, being one of my most inspiring "idols" when I was coming up on the drums, it is incredible to me that we share our birthdays! At least that's one thing I can share with him although I wish it was his drumming capability!!! Billy was the founding Father of fusion drumming! So innovative, creative, extremely tight, crisp, powerful, master of odd meter beats and overall, just has an incredible feel for rhythm, cadence and syncopation! His work for years with John McGlaughlin Mahavishnu Orchestra was stunning and intimidated many of the best drummers of that era! I believe it was Terry Bozzio when he was with Frank Zappa said that this guy Billy Cobham is an imposing, incredible drummer and we have to be their back up band! Or something like that. I met him a few years ago after a concert where he came out and signed autographs and we talked for about 10 minutes about A LOT of things, historical and current! He is the nicest, most humble guy you could ever know! A true icon and is definitely up there in terms of the G.O.A.T.! I definitely anticipate playing my drums when I'm 80! I'm 66 tomorrow and still cranking out some major drums, mostly fusion type stuff, and only plan on getting better!! Thank You Billy for being who and what you are as an incredible drummer and human being and for being such a major inspiration in my life!

Supreme control and restraint by the bassist to interact with Billy. Makes me want to slow down, relax and rethink my own approach a bit.

Amazing and thanks a bunch for the upload..... I have been a fan of cobham and crosswind track for about a decade but this live performance is out of the world. Just wen through comments and I was surprised at how nobody is talking the solos of both keyboard guys..... I think they jammed really well deep complex solos on the keyboard....insanely great Also can any keyboard enthusiasts explain approximately how many steps deep these complex solos of the keyboard are.... also do the musicians produce exact same sounding solos everytime or the there is variation in steps as the musician adapts everytime they perform
@deprimes20002 ай бұрын
I doubt the kb solo sounds the same every time, that'd be incredibly hard to do. Not impossible I'd say, but VERY hard and prolly more fun to improv every time

very great band, but the Hammond sound is an horror on this nord keyboard, Leslie effect is rather bad. No Hammond B3 or new XK SERIE in this nice recording studio ?
