The videos are all well and good after a fashion, but a live performance is a different experience entirely. Which is why I don't watch the videos that much. They're just not the same.
@robertjones95982 ай бұрын
@@irbennett Agree and disagree. A recording of a legendary event has substantial value as it would otherwise be completely ephemeral, transient, gone with the wind experience and exists only in the collective, fallible memory of a select few. I can enjoy it in optimal conditions. At a live event I might be uncomfortable, not have the best view, other factors like social anxiety, over inebriated, etc. Personally, I don’t get the thrill others seem to get from the knowledge that something is unfolding apparently spontaneously in front of their very eyes, like sports. I’m still just an observer, and 99% of it is rehearsed and honed responses anyway. Still appreciate it though, it wouldn’t exist were it not for the ‘live’ aspect which has to come first.
@irbennett2 ай бұрын
@@robertjones9598 That's the problem with the videos on KZbin, a lot of them have been cut or edited in some way. One in particular where Billy is in the Arctic which is being reenacted on stage, which I was present at, the best part has been edited out for whatever reason. As you mentioned in your original post, with Billy it is about the build up throughout the entirety of the live performance, which is missing from edited video segments. Also being able to see Billy himself onstage performing his act is vital for me. I can guarantee that 99% of his act isn't rehearsed. When you see him onstage it is obvious he is working without a script.

Many many years ago when I was in my late teens I temporarily lived in Adelaide - South Australia ( although I was born there, I grew up elsewhere in another South Australian town ) Am now 52 but I returned back to Adelaide for a while in my teenage years ). One very early morning I caught a public transport bus to the city, pretty sure it was a weekend morning in Adelaide, and I don't know what it's like early in the morning nowadays in Adelaide - but this particular morning I was there - it was totally deserted. Not a soul around. I wasn't too far from the Rundle Mall shopping area walking down King William Street when I noticed a very tall man walking in the distance towards my direction. At the time - we would have been the only two people about. As I got closer - I recognised the gentleman in this video clip. Mr Billy Connolly. I was a shy kind of teenager, but I glanced up at this man towering over me as he walked by. I wasn't really seeking his attention ( but a quick hello would have been nice ). But as he walked by, I noticed he just seemed too distracted and engrossed in taking in the sights of Adelaide as he was gazing UP at the city buildings. Don't blame him though, Adelaide does have a lot of fascinating big old buildings and structures around the city.
