Billy was a class act. Pre Beatles, he was unbeatable. "The Sound Of Fury" still remains an essential piece of rock'n' roll on both sides of the Atlantic. What a great performer! No wonder the girls were drooling over him. He had the looks, voice and sheer charisma to become a star. Sadly his health let him down eventually. David Brinkley was an idiot of the highest order. Two years later, The Beatles would sweep everything aside especially in the States. What did you expect from a country that gave the world Pat Boone? Poor David and his pitiful ilk never saw that coming. Thanks for posting that brilliant footage of Billy Fury.

A great find for his surving fans. Not many live footages around. Very amusing especially the po-faced presenter. My dad would have said the same. I was banned from playing my R/R. He said it damaged his record player. Billy Fury was a real star of his time and his life story of his rise to fame was truly charming and fascinating. He was also kind to animals which really does it for me. I will put on my vinyl this evening" We want Billy" open a beer and swing into action. Cheers to his memory. He lives on.

Billy Fury was great and had a fairly long career as a singer, The French guy Johnny Halliday was massive, that guys popularity in France during his peak was a very similar to How Elvis was in 1956 America, when he died his funeral was televised across France, although little known outside of France, you have to remember that France is bigger than England and if you are a major star there you are BIG

I once heard Billy Fury was a poor mans Elvis Presley, but he was Billy Fury a superb artist in his own right one off the best British artists of his time and died so young, if you ever visit Liverpool go down to the Albert docks there you will find a statue of Billy in his full glory. R.I.P.

I like Cliff; however, he benefitted from white privilege and still does. Billy Fury came up from nothing, also chronic illness. Not merely an Elvis impersonator. He developed his own style over time. He wasn't falling out of his shirts either. What a blue-eyed Soul Brother!! So sad I didn't know about him sooner.

Was THAT ever cool footage, complete with a commercial no less (and the only part of the whole thing in black and white)! I think the highlight was the last sequence showing the synthesizer. I though Moog synthesizers were big enough but this one is colossal! Imagine what it's 1961 cost of $750,000 would adjust to today!

Rock 'n Roll is dying? Is this an early example of Fake New?
@davidbarnett93124 жыл бұрын
Yeah, true. In 1961, the teen idols had taken over. Elvis had matured, Rick was 21, and Little Richard was pretty much gone from the scene. The rockers of the 50's had passed their sell by date, such as Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee's personal life destroyed his career, and Chuck Berry was in trouble with the law, as in 'transporting a minor across state lines'. It did take the British Invasion to bring back rock 'n roll. Now let's look at those Parisians. In those days, folks took two baths: birth and death. They had fleas in the clothes and beds, syphilis was a big killer, as well as other diseases, no such thing as tooth paste much less dental flossers, people squatted and did their numbers in public and the offal was tossed out the windows to lie in the streets thus encouraging more disease, infant mortality was huge, and the serfs and peasants lived miserable lives. Yeah, I'll take rock 'n roll any day juxtaposed against the preceding indictment of the past. A few paintings, statues, and symphonies cannot cover up how living in the past was abysmal.

What's wrong with those girls? They are screaming and then suddenly stop as if they never screamed. One of the girls looks as if she was afraid of the singer. And yet another one, on the left of the screen, keeps alternating her looks - at one time she looks most likely at the singer's face, at yet at another time she looks somewhere lower.

ol Dave Brinkley had no idea what was waitn right around the corner in 1964 with the British invasion and everything else that came with it. "The man" tried to squash and get rid of rock'n roll, but their efforts were futile. Once Elvis hit the scene in 54 and blew the barn door off its hinges that was it - all the livestock was long gone. Nice try, but you were a day late and a dollar short!

I think the presenters got piles, I can tell with the tone of his voice. He probably also suffers with athletes foot as I’m sure he keeps rubbing one foot with the other foot, you can tell because he doesn’t open his mouth much when he talks. Another thing I’ve noticed is that there’s a probability he may have ringworm due to the way he talks down to people. People with ringworm do this a lot . They tend to talk down to people due to the nature of the condition. They think it’s a condition only special people contract, that’s why they talk down to people. It’s quite a common condition in actual fact, even hobos have been known to get it which in their case can be fatal if left to fester.
