On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN, the newest inductees into the Musician's Hall of Fame were honored. The 2014 class included:
Randy Bachman -- A legendary figure in the rock and roll world through his talents as a guitarist with The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive.
Jimmy Capps -- As one of Country Music's finest guitar players, Jimmy Capps is a 'master of smoothness'. Some of the classics that Jimmy has played on are "Stand By Your Man," "He Stopped Loving Her Today," and "The Gambler."
Peter Frampton -- Grammy Award winner Peter Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. At 16, he was lead singer and guitarist for British band The Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive! remains one of the top-selling live records of all time.
Buddy Guy -- Guy is a pioneer of the Chicago blues sound and has served as an influence to some of the most notable musicians of his generation, including Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Guy 30th on their list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
Ben Keith (posthumously) -- Known primarily for his work as a pedal steel guitarist with Neil Young, Keith was a fixture of the Nashville country music community in the 1950s and 1960s. The very first song Ben recorded as a Nashville session player was Patsy Cline's timeless standard "I Fall To Pieces."
Will Lee -- Best known for his work as the bass guitarist on the CBS television program Late Show with David Letterman as part of the CBS Orchestra. As a studio musician, Lee has played on more than 1700 albums working with artists as diverse as Carly Simon, Barry Manilow, Mariah Carey, and Dave Matthews.
Barbara Mandrell -- First female inductee into the MHOF and first artist to win the CMA Entertainer Of The Year for two consecutive years. She has won multiple awards from the CMA, ACM, American Music Awards, Grammys, People's Choice Awards and a Dove Award.
Corki Casey O'Dell -- In Phoenix, Arizona, in the mid-Fifties, a small group of musicians were making groundbreaking recordings that would help to define the sound of Rock and Roll. Corki Casey O'Dell was the lone woman musician in this group.
Velma Smith -- A self-taught musician, Smith learned to sing and play guitar at an early age. Velma was the first female to perform a solo on the NBC Network portion of the Grand Ole Opry. Some of the artists Velma recorded with during her musical career were Eddy Arnold, Hank Locklin, Jim Reeves, Skeeter Davis, Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich and Don Gibson.
Stevie Ray Vaughan (posthumously) & Double Trouble -- With Stevie on guitar, Chris Layton on drums, Tommy Shannon on bass guitar and Reese Wynans on keyboards, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble are credited with igniting the Blues Revival in the '80s with sold out concerts and gold records.
2014 Iconic Riff Award -- Roy Orbison (posthumously) "Pretty Woman" -- Grammy winner Roy Orbison's induction as a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are well documented, but not as well known, is that as a guitarist, Roy created one of the most covered and iconic guitar riffs of all time, "Pretty Woman". Roy is the first recipient of this award.
2014 Industry Icon Award -- Mike Curb -- Mike Curb is the first Musicians Hall of Fame Industry Icon Award winner. He started out writing music for TV and film before creating his first record label in 1963. Later, he merged his company with MGM and became president of MGM Records and Verve Records. In the '70s, Curb wrote for and produced Roy Orbison, the Osmond Family, Lou Rawls, and Sammy Davis, Jr. In 1994, the former Lieutenant Governor of California moved to Nashville and formed Curb Records with country recording artists including Wynonna Judd, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams, Jr. Rodney Atkins, and Tim McGraw. Along with running Curb Records, Mike is also a civic leader and benefactor for many organizations including higher learning institutions that have helped ensure the entertainment industry will survive in perpetuity.
Special guests for the ceremony also included:
Neil Young
Grammy winner Peter Frampton - Inductee
Will Lee - Inductee
Randy Bachman - Inductee
ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons
Steve Wariner
Kenny Wayne Shepherd
The Oak Ridge Boys
Duane Eddy
Buffy Sainte-Marie
Brenda Lee

Peter Frampton looks every bit as star struck with The Reverend Willy G as any one of us would be if we were on stage with him. I think Peter (even today) is also just genuinely happy to still have his health & to be able to take part in such things. Because his rocketship ride into superstardom nearly did him in, I think it means everything to him to still be relevant all these years later. 🇺🇸

@@kenwhite6252 Another nickname for ZZ Top collectively is "Frak, Willy & Dust"... In the 90's, I was a member of the ZZ Top International Fan Club & one of the newsletters referred to them that way. Incidentally, fan club members were granted special advance ticket purchasing privileges so for the Antenna tour, I had 11th row floor seats at The Omni International in Atlanta. The opening band was Jackyl & when their drummer, Chris Worley threw some drumsticks into the crowd, I caught one. I still have it. 🇺🇸

Thank you to whoever recorded this, Sadly in this day and age of digital, there can be nothing in the red or even orange. I hope that there’s an official record that becomes available. I suggest since there’s a bunch of different publishers and record labels involved, and all proceeds go to a charity. This NEEDS to be restored rightfully and available. It showcases Texas, Delta, Chicago blues, it’s also a perfect example of how both Country and Rock music were spawned from their own originators while using the blues as a foundation. Please find a way to make this available - it’s a beautiful educational tool!

This is why I don't like to watch shows with All-Star jams in 'em anymore - somebody in charge is afraid of "making too much noise." All those stars are famous for playing LOUD as Heck-ola, and it REALLY hurts to see them stifled.

Have seen a lot of Billy Gibbons videos where he played along with one or more guitarists on stage. Randy Bachman obviously hasn`t seen any of them. Everyone gets his solo from Billy, but usually it`s Billy who brings it in. I think he was a special guest at that show. In the main part it is his song and his show at least for this song. Bachman steals the solo 30 seconds after Billy started it and gives the next solo to the steel guitar player. This is poor behaviour and playing foul on a higher level, especially because Billy Gibbons always gives every guitarist enough space to play. Billy wasn`t noticeably amused. IMHO Bachman screws up his solo. That`s mercifully corrective justice, folks. The only one who`s behaving respectfully is Peter Frampton. He`s making the most of that situation, right? Thanks for posting.

i noticed that also...he stepped all over the end of billy's part. I saw bachman on Steve Jones podcast, Jonesies jukebox...jones didnt know who bachman was and did not know any of his music...and bachman was pissed as he was doing press for a beatles cover album he did, and the only things special about it was supposed to be that randy was doing the songs and jones had no idea of any of bachmans cataloge to push the album as being from a "rock star". lol blew bachmans branding for him and his new album out of the water and made the show less powerful as a sales tool to push the "requirement" of owning the album it being from the great rock star randy bachman. Jones was oblivious of why bachman was not happy jones did no research at all. great show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWOXXmeJqrOJjas
