Now that could be cause it was his show/project, so he had everything he wanted...But, the three together was a gift that they even enjoyed, and as a player myself, that does not happen often, so when it does, it becomes a gift to those in the audience...👍🎸🎶🎵🎼

When the musicians walk on stage together they aren’t looking to be ‘the best individual’, they are making music TOGETHER. Without the band there’s nothing, without a collective desire to drive the song forward there’s nothing, without communication (either verbal or musically) there’s nothing. These musicians breath this stuff, they appreciate each other’s talents and bring out the best in the song or solo. Watch a great musician and you’ll see give and take, you’ll see a love for the moment and the emotion they create for their audience. This is a unique moment that can’t be repeated, enjoy it for what it is. It’s not a competition.

@mariodriessen97404 жыл бұрын
He's not. Just because he's not famous in the eyes of 10 year old screaming girls, it doesn't mean that every guitar player in the whole wide world doesn't know he's one of the best at this moment.
@Cool3reeze4 жыл бұрын
@@mariodriessen9740 I hate comments like yours, if people feel that an artist is underrated it probably has merit in their eyes. You hearing of a particular musician doesn't mean that enough people know who he is. If I went out and asked 100 people do you think they'd all say they know who he is? I doubt they would, so he is underrepresented or more generally underrated. That's my .02 that nobody asked for but I felt like I needed to call you out on your unwanted .02. Have a nice day.
@mariodriessen97404 жыл бұрын
B. Cook ; I’m sorry I offended you, or anyone. I never intended to offend people. And maybe this will turn into a semantic matter, but there is, in my opinion anyway, a huge difference between being underrepresented or being underrated. I think we all agree that Josh Smith is a fabulous guitarist. And that’s exactly my point. He’s absolutely not underrated, but he is indeed underrepresented. However, you could say the exact same thing about a man like John Scofield, Danny Gatton and even Pat Metheny. Ask 100 random people and you’d be pleased to find two who know all of them. We’re on the same boat here. The only reason I reacted on this comment was to point out the fact that Josh is crazy good and I have never met a guitar player who believed otherwise. So does that make him underrated? Not in my world. And if he is, then he’s not the only person on that stage that’s underrated. And that’s the only point I was trying to make. I’m not a troll and I don’t feel the urge to bash anyone. Do great guitar players (or instrumentalists in general) get the praise they deserve? Absolutely not. Is it our ‘fault’? I don’t think so. I’d be amazed if people who are watching this video will think he’s underrated. Have a nice day. And remember, I’m not your enemy.

Josh Smith killing it with the opening notes. I like how Tommy takes a different touch to his solo. Bonnamassa does something different as well makes the whole show more interesting every guy is listening reacting to each other, the backup singers made it even sweeter.

Josh means business 😊 straight to the point. Tommy adding all the textures and Joe keeping it moving. Just magical😇

You know, I have watched this quite a few times, and it still makes me smile seeing how much fun they’re all having, especially when they’re in that circle just trading phrases. It’s the looks on their faces when the OTHER guy is playing that are the best.

No one got in the way of each other. One played a different position on the fretboard to highlight the other two. It's a meeting where every one gets to say their piece......a guitar conversation worthy of our attention.

Interesting how people always frame these jams as "duels" instead of just three great guitarists playing off each other and loving it. It's all subjective and a matter of taste -- because they're all masters! I actually jammed with Tommy once... I was on bass and he played drums. Yes... he's a great drummer too... and always one of the most personable guys I ever met on the scene back in the day.

Well said Mr. Howard and must have been cool to jam with Tommy... Philip NYC Area

@@uptownphotography Yes... super humble, chilled-out dude. I used to go see him and his brother Phil play when they worked as The Emmanuel Brothers. They were just amazing together, both playing on the same guitar at the same time and doing killer arrangements of things like Henri Mancini's Pink Panther.
@uptownphotography3 жыл бұрын
@@mr.howard1 Yes, I remember Tommy on a PBS show talking about his brother and playing with him together. He's definitely one of my favorite guitarist. Larry Carlton is my other favorite. I saw Larry play twice at a small venue and I luckily both times I was only about 12 feet away from him. I never saw Tommy play live, but I have followed him a long time. It was cool to see him playing electric and in jamming mode. Thanks for the reply. Philip
@mr.howard13 жыл бұрын
@@uptownphotography Oh, yes... Larry is one of my all time favourites -- never got to see him though. I did see Steely Dan before Walter passed away though. I try to see them all when I can... in case they die! Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughn to mention a few. I used to work in a studio and got to set up Roy Buchanan's rehearsals... watched his show from side of stage. He was such a nice guy too!

@@mr.howard1 Steely Dan is another one of my favs as far as bands. Great songs they had. There were so many cool guitar solos on their albums and it was always interesting trying to learn the solos. (Larry of course did many for them, as I am sure you already know). I studied with a jazz guitarist quite a few years here in New Jersey and was into writing and recording jazz fusion type songs in the 1990s. Writing and recording is something I am just getting back into and I have been rebuilding my recording studio to that end. Before photography, I used to rent my studio for a living. Philip

My favourite part about all three of them is that they're playing with a lot of dynamics in their solos! So much feel!!!
@jbatista97894 жыл бұрын
@theh1n1shot Not at all, you can play fast and still be playing with dynamics and feel. Edited to elaborate... You could use speed as a forms of playing dynamically, but you can totally be playing fast for the duration of the solo and vary the technique, touch, timing, etc to add dynamics. The recently late EVH was great for that... he'd pick, legato, and tap all in the same solo! You could also be speed picking scales the whole time and feeling it, so it's all good!

@susancross36914 жыл бұрын
We need as many as we can get to keep the blues alive! Joe is the most famous right now who is carrying this forward but we need more, young blues guitarists. If they're this good, there can never be enough. After Dwayne Allman died, there was a vacuum to fill.
@JulioLeonFandinho4 жыл бұрын
I can see the guy is an excelent blues player... I can't see the 'own voice' part, nevertheless. Same for Bonamassa. You can be an excellent musician, a virtuoso and all that stuff, and be nothing innovative. Usually people doesn't like innovative people
