I live not too far from Fairmount. When I went to James Dean's grave there was stickers on it and gum stuck to it. I actually cleaned it up. Across the street was the home or farm of one of James' relatives who shared story after story with us about him growing up. We went to his high school which was just an abandoned building you'd see anywhere else. It wasn't locked up or anything and there were all these super old 45's in the gym on the stage. It was just a strange feeling that day I remember that. With all those things still being there. I haven't watched Jordan's video yet but just that thumbnail brought back so many memories. I live in Laporte Indiana. Ok playing the video! 😂

Wow! Billy Goat hasn't changed a bit since I worked in that neighborhood (Equitable Building on Michigan Ave) in the 1970's and early 1980's. Had many a nice meal there back in the day. Scott's right, only the tv's seem to have changed and that's a good thing. Thanks for this blast from my past nostalgia trip. Have a wonderful road trip!

As a Hoosier, I've been to Fairmont and James Dean's grave several times. The museum and the town do an amazing job of keeping his memory alive. Love that you seem to be "taking a back road." Cool. Love Fairmount. Haven't been there since they did the birthsite dedication in Marion at least five years ago or more...You took a different route than the one I remember most...We took if coming from Fairmount to Chicago 26 to 65 to 80 slash 90 to 90 slash 94...Lived in Chicago all my life and never been to Billy Goat but very familiar with the Saturday Night Live skit...looks like a fun place. I used to live an hour from there. I've not been there in years. I'm glad to see i they've updated things and kept things looking so good. When I was there it was said they had had to replace the headstone a few times because of the fans damaging it. Do you know how many there were?

Hi Jordan. 2 things. Do you think James Dean was the driver of the car he was killed in? I'm not so convinced he was. 2nd, actress Jane Withers was interviewed some years ago. She was a very good friend of James. She had a pink western style shirt of his that she had taken home to wash and unfortunately he was killed before she could give it back.
