This movie was made mostly in Sante Fe New Mexico in 1970-71. I was 14 years old and watched them make it. The fight scene in the plaza was a hoot. We snuck up onto the roof of the Woolworths that has now been divided into 3 or 4 over priced "art" galleries and watched.

RIP Billy Jack. Billy Jack saved the day, but it looks like we lost the war. Take a look at the menu board from 1971 (beginning of video). Tuna salad 60 cents. Egg salad 30 cents. Fried Chicken 65 cents and French fries 20 cents. Everything now coats 10 times more, but wages since '71 only went up five times more. A good hourly rate in '71 was five dollars per hour. You need fifty dollars per hour now to break even!!!!

I have just one question. Can someone tell when ice cream shops began having open bins of flour accessible to customers?
@jimfriedman9937 жыл бұрын
I saw an interview with Tom saying the idea came to him when his wife told him this actually was done to Indians by the whites when she was a kid. He should have realized though that it doesn't make sense for an ice cream shop to have giant containers of flour and should have them go in a bakery.
@JW...-oj5iw7 жыл бұрын
King David ... And I thought I'd come up with a fresh angle when I asked Franny Dent why they had bulk flour in the customer area. Further reading on other threads got me here. Kudos to you and all the other sharp eyed observers.

Well back in those days they had flour because I have no friggin idea why ?
@theanimatedpencilstudio7 жыл бұрын
Speaking of the famous confrontation in the ice cream shop that drove Billy berserk, viewers who wondered why a soda fountain would have a barrel of flour handy might be interested to find out that this scene was based on a real-life incident Taylor witnessed while growing up in a small South Dakota reservation town. She was one of a handful of Caucasians who lived in the area (her Native playmates called her Little Yellow Head as a child) and the poor treatment of the Indians while growing up had a huge impact on her, and later her husband as well.

That's right classic, I have seen many many, ...many times examples of how physical discipline really works. Not talking about violence, I'm talking bully's and straight up assholes that require a payback. It's amazingly how quick it works, in a matters of a second their attitudes change. :)

+JRFrancisco20088 it would benefit to know some background research on this film. Know that there were those in the film industry that did not want Tom Laughlin to make this movie & gave him all kinds of problems that caused financial draining. After the films completion it took 3yrs before he was finally able to get into the movie theaters. The original group that sings "One Tin Soldier" was performed by Coven. BUT, another group sang it & caused major delays to the films release. I agree w/you that we love to see bigots get their much warranted beat downs. I've been fighting for a group of disabled kids that has caused the sect of ppl who have been raping their lives to come after me. The fighting & retaliations have been extremely vicious. There has been many a time that I wish that I could let go of restraint & do what Billy Jack does & absolutely beat these bastard ppl to an inch of their lives & then see to it that they are in the deepest darkest prison dungeons. Billy Jack is absolutely an Iconic Film & like you have stated...it touches the very essence of our Souls & causes all to relate well as they watch this powerful story of HUmanity versus prejudice injustices. I remember when it was finally at the theaters & lines went down city blocks. Even tho' this became a hit film...Tom Laughlin continued having prejudices from many film barons...it is mind numbing to learn just how the upper echelon despises those who were & are the "Original Land Owners" of what we call America...the land of the free. Just thought you might be interested to know some tidbits in the history/background of this movie. It is certainly a powerful film to have in one's movie collection.

I 100% agree. In today's society standing up for yourself, your family or some poor individual who is being bullied makes you the bad guy. And if you are a war veteran keep your mouth shut. Your reward for serving this country is being labeled as prone to violence. You literally have to pull an attorney out of your ass to stay out of jail just for not allowing yourself or others to be victimized.
