I was first exposed to Billy Joe at a MOUNTAIN STAGE live show in Charleston, West Virginia. At the time, I didn't know how many great songs by him I already knew. The host of the show introduced him as "the real deal" and his Dickies work clothes backed that up. The old cowboy was MAGIC. I don't even recall who I was there to hear, but I left a complete fan of his authentic music. RIP and thanks for the great music.

They are trying to understand the lyrics. I am trying to understand the lyrics. I wrote 'em out; this song is lyrical chaos. And yes, I like it anyway. But really, it means nothing. Incoherent, non linear, no story, and as the composer confesses, written initially as an eight year old. Um hmm, yup.
