All of Billy Joel’s songs are epic! Virtually all of his songs are incredible. “Honesty” and “scenes from an Italian restaurant” are 2 of his best.

I grew up listening to Bill Joel in the 1970s and 80s, and he is an excellent lyricist, powerful singer and versatile musician, but by this album, he has lost his passion and energy to create, so there are many songs that pre-date this one that to my ears are stronger on all fronts, too many to list here, but one I think you'd enjoy because of its bluesy approach is a duet with Joel ad Ray Charles, Baby Grand. As for beautiful songs, Joel has many: She's Got A Way, She's Always a Woman to Me, Vienna, Just the Way You Are, Honesty, The Stranger, The Longest Time, Rosalinda's Eyes and Summer Highland Falls, just to name a few, as well as great rockers, great story-driven songs and such diversity of style, from jazzy rock to more convention rock and roll. I'd also suggest reacting to another artist who emerged about the same time as Joel, who rose to fame more rapidly in the early 70s, but whose brilliant career was cut short when he and his musical partner were killed in a small plane while on tour after making a stop in a small venue he had long since outgrown, but had played anyways after missing a gig there a year earlier because of illness, Jim Croce. He was an even better story teller than Joel, a brilliant player on the acoustic guitar, a voice that could be alternatively powerful and vulnerable, and three albums that produced more than a dozen timeless songs. Suggest you start with Time in a Bottle, which he wrote when he found out his wife, also a musician, was pregnant with their first child. The go on to Operator, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, I'll have to Say I Love You in a Song, I Got a Name, Working at the Car Wash Blues, and Box #10.

He was hesitant to jump back in the studio. His daughter Alexa Ray was an infant and he hated to leave her and Christie at home. He struggled a bit to find something to "Bridge" the gap between "An Innocent Man" which was a massive hit album.

I watched his Live from Long Island HBO concert over and over and over as a kid, and would highly recommend it. Amazing stuff with him pretty much in his prime. His songs live with his band from the 70s through the mid-80s were awesome.

I watched it numerous times too and it even pre-dates songs like this one being reacted to here, as well as An Innocent Man, Tell Her About It, The Longest Time, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start The Fire and The River Of Dreams.

He still sounds REALLY GOOD and his current band are very good as well and has 1 or 2 members from the 70/80's in it! I have deep respect for the original band but Billy is one of the few performers I would still see today and pay good money to see. KZbin has some great videos from this year to prove my point.

@@colinmcphan He does still sound very good. I try to go maybe once a year to see him. Always had a strong voice. He's taken songs down a key or so, and makes effective use of the former tribute band singer who plays with him now to help. If you get a chance to see the Lords of 52nd Street, though, you won't be disappointed. For me, getting to see Liberty play up close and personal was awesome. Those guys could step in and play with Billy tomorrow if all parties agreed to it. I think his current band is really, really good (just not the same though).

@@colinmcphan Not trying to be a dick here but Mark Rivera who plays mainly saxophone is the longest serving member of Billy's band, joining in around 1982 at the time of The Nylon Curtain album and tour. Billy's former drummer Liberty Devitto was the longest-serving band member to remain from the 1970s but parted ways with Billy in 2006.

Hey, for a terrific Billy Joel song to react to, definitely check out Angry Young Man...pretty much any version is great, but the live track from one of Billy's concerts in the Soviet Union in 1987 is maybe the best. If you search Prelude/Angry Young Man The Bridge to Russia, you will find it. I would post the link, but that usually gets a comment deleted these days. ✌💯

I just “discovered” this song and I agree with your take on the song. I love the guitar and the lyrics. I listen to it daily and I’ve been hurt by as long relationship-30 years-I only put up with the pain to protect two wonderful children! I’m not one who enjoys pain!

Thanks for the great reaction. Billy is my favorite and he has a deep and eclectic catalog. Would love to hear more reactions to his music. Try his duet with Ray Charles called “Baby Grand.” Billy took artistic license with both the style and lyrics, to mimic Ray as a gesture of respect. Also, “The Stranger” rocks nicely as well. Regards

@@haveabarryniceday238 Oh, I didn’t know!. Barry is the last Bee Gee left standing! Isn’t that sad? Out of Four Brothers. The youngest Andy passed away at 35 years old years ago. I liked his two hit songs! Shadow Dancing and I just want to be your everything. He was good and sounded like a Bee Gee! And It’s ironic that the oldest Bee Gee Barry has turned out to be the strongest. A survivor! He’s missing his brothers now and I feel for him. He was crying during an interview when he talks about them and being the last one left alive. It made me want to cry too! But I hope he doesn’t lose the will to live and lives to be 100, if he wants to. If he gives up on life and starts talking about joining his brothers then he’ll be finished! I hope not! I liked The Bee Gees music! They had some good Disco dance hits! Thanks for answering my question! 👏🏻🎸😎
