Billy Joel has it all. Top tier musician, great voice, great songwriter. His music spans decades. And he's not hard on the eyes. Not for me at least. LOL I do think he had some hard times with alcohol for a good while. I think he's a little genius myself.

I have to agree with you and Billy Joel about honesty being so hard to find. It's impossible to be completely honest to get through life and we all do want to make good impressions on others. Complete honesty can also get us into a lot of trouble, especially with people who are not ready to accept it. Nice reaction to this song; honestly!

I mean, he does it in every verse but the genius rhyming here just astonishes me. Lines 1 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 6 in every verse, and in every chorus, and still can make the story make sense.! _"When I'm deep inside of me Don't be too concerned I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone But when I want sincerity Tell me, where else can I turn? 'Cause you're the one that I depend upon"_

Billy Joel really went through some Stuff to be able to write songs like this. For a good chunk of his career, he was indeed lied to, by his managers, lawyers, business associates, record producers... It really didn't help that his first wife was his manager and her brother was his lawyer, and they both stole millions upon millions of dollars from him. That being said, I hope you can check out a song called Stiletto, about a super toxic relationship that most likely reflected his situation.
@jamishops
@jamishops Жыл бұрын
I don’t think Elizabeth actually stole any money from Billy, she just got her divorce settlement. Frank, her brother, took over the manager position after Elizabeth stepped down and you are correct he stole millions, but I think the betrayal hurt Billy more than the money. A lot of those emotions came out when he wrote the River id Dreams album. Billy thought so much of him that he is Alexa Ray’s godfather. That had to have really hurt. They say great artist have to suffer. I guess Billy paid his dues.
@etc7070
@etc7070 Жыл бұрын
@@jamishops you're definitely right, it was a betrayal of who he thought was family. He just seemed like a guy who couldn't say no, thinking that they knew what was best for him in terms of finances. And yet he still came out the bigger man.

@@etc7070 There is a certain irony under the circumstances that as well as this song Honesty, Billy has also written and recorded other songs called Got To Begin Again, Last Of The Big Time Spenders, Get It Right The First Time, Easy Money, A Matter Of Trust, Temptation, Code Of Silence and Shameless.

I was going through an abusive marriage when I found Billy Joel. A street preacher introduced me to him. I was sitting in a bar, alone. I had escaped my husband, and was hiding from him inside. He just came up and started talking to me, he must have seen the desperation in my face. Good grief. I haven't thought of that day in years.

Billy wrote this song as if he were Beethoven, different style, doing Moonlight Sonata, just brilliant. Yes he was a clsasically trained pianist, but where the hell did he get that singing voice? Just fabulous!! I had almost every Billy Joel Album at one time.. He was a songwriter's songwriter...the George Gershwin or Duke Ellington etc of his own era. Look those guys up if you wanna get a musical education beyond the corporate radio playlists...
