Lyrics:
Now we take our time, so nonchalant
And spend our nights so bon vivant
We dress our days in silken robes
The money comes
The money goes
We know it's all a passing phase
We light our lamps for atmosphere
And hang our hopes on chandeliers
We're going wrong, we're gaining weight
We're sleeping long and far too late
And so it's time to change our ways
But I've loved these days
Billy Joel's official KZbin channel features music videos, live performances, interviews, TV appearances and more. Best known for his first hit song, 'Piano Man', in 1973, Billy has written and recorded thirty- three Top 40 hits in the United States. He is a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 150 million records worldwide. Billy Joel is the sixth-best-selling recording artist and the third-best-selling solo artist in the United States.

I have never been a follower of Billy Joel, so when I heard this song during one of the best Billions episodes, I was totally blown away. Lyrics mean nothing to me because I treat the human voice as just another instrument. And what Mr. Joel did during this song was magnificent. Pitch-perfect... vabratically enthralling... an instrument as pure and enrapturing as any I've ever heard. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Billy Loel!

They play the song in multiple parts of multiple episodes. It is it's own theme, and if you pay attention, the beauty of the work is that it helps give away information that they don't include in the monologues. Sorkin et al did a wonderful job on the season and the show.

Oh yes, Billy Joel. Gotta love We didn't start the fire, Movin' Out, Uptown Girl, She's always a woman, Just the way you are, The longest time, You may be right, Big shot, etc. Plenty of great music from this guy, and he's in the rock and roll hall of fame as of 1999, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013. I remember the latter distinctly, as Obama was president and was always a fan of a wide range of music. Celebrate your time, guys, that's what music is for.

I saw Billy live at the garden and never ever heard him play this song at any of his when the concert was over he came back out for an encore and played this song.. never at any concerts that my friends and the people I know that's been to almost every Billy Joel concert that he did in New York even said that they never ever had heard him play this song. Billy Joel’s fourth studio album, “Turnstiles” (1976), is largely about the singer-songwriter’s return to his native New York after spending three years in Los Angeles. In “I’ve Loved These Days”* (1976), Joel takes a sardonic look at the hollow pursuit of hedonism he’s leaving behind. The musician didn’t realize how much his life was about to change with the release of his COMMERCIAL BREAKTHROUGH, “The Stranger” (1977), but he sensed there was a change coming, which lead him to write this piece. He explained : “I was recognizing that I was at the end of a certain point in my life. I didn’t know it was going to be such a QUANTUM LEAP with “The Stranger” album. But from ‘76 to ‘77, my life was taking on a trajectory that was pretty intense, and I wanted to say goodbye to the era I had come out of, which was ‘I’ve Loved These Days’… I was gonna make a move somehow, something different was gonna happen. It was fraught at that particular time in my life. Things are gonna change. Not with thinking about I’m gonna be a big success. But it’s going to change, there’s going to be a big change in my life. And then came ‘The Stranger’ album.” 💛🎹💚 * The working title was “These Rhinestone Days.”

Genius! Some songwriters have the ability to write lyrics that stand alone as poetry even of you never heard the music. This guy is one of those. Another example is Pink Floyd. Read their lyrics to "Time" as a standalone poem, and it's fantastic. Combined with music? OMG!! Just like this one ... pure genius.

Strictly a compliment: every time I've listened to "I've Loved These Days," by Billy Joel I feel he was channeling his admiration for Procol Harum. The lyrical meter, the melody, the arrangement -- all very Procol Harum. I could even "hear" Gary Brooker's voice. The song is definitely all Billy Joel -- but, I just feel that influential thread running through the tune & have often played it back to back with some of Procol Harum's finest ballads -- especially songs from 1973's Grand Hotel.

One of my absolute favorites by far! I love this one! I also have a theory that this song & Famous Last Words are connected. They both seem to have the same honesty, and chandeliers are mentioned in both songs. Those are just a few of the ways I think they are linked.

Hoku The Overwatch Editor I agree, on Cold Spring Harbor, Billy sounds just like Paul; the songs even sound inspired by McCartney!
