I have never been a follower of Billy Joel, so when I heard this song during one of the best Billions episodes, I was totally blown away. Lyrics mean nothing to me because I treat the human voice as just another instrument. And what Mr. Joel did during this song was magnificent. Pitch-perfect... vabratically enthralling... an instrument as pure and enrapturing as any I've ever heard. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Billy Loel!

They play the song in multiple parts of multiple episodes. It is it's own theme, and if you pay attention, the beauty of the work is that it helps give away information that they don't include in the monologues. Sorkin et al did a wonderful job on the season and the show.

Oh yes, Billy Joel. Gotta love We didn't start the fire, Movin' Out, Uptown Girl, She's always a woman, Just the way you are, The longest time, You may be right, Big shot, etc. Plenty of great music from this guy, and he's in the rock and roll hall of fame as of 1999, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013. I remember the latter distinctly, as Obama was president and was always a fan of a wide range of music. Celebrate your time, guys, that's what music is for.

Genius! Some songwriters have the ability to write lyrics that stand alone as poetry even of you never heard the music. This guy is one of those. Another example is Pink Floyd. Lyrics: Now we take our time, so nonchalant And spend our nights so bon vivant We dress our days in silken robes The money comes The money goes We know it’s all a passing phase We light our lamps for atmosphere And hang our hopes on chandeliers We’re going wrong, we’re gaining weight We’re sleeping long and far too late And so it’s time to change our ways But I’ve loved these days Now as we indulge in things refined We hide our hearts from harder times A string of pearls, a foreign car Oh we can only go so far On caviar and Cabernet We drove our doubts in dry champagne And soothe our souls with fine cocaine I don’t know why I even care We’ll get so high and get nowhere We’ll have to change our jaded ways But I’ve loved these days So before we end and then begin We’ll drink a toast to how it’s been A few more hours to be complete A few more nights on satin sheets A few more times that I can say I’ve loved these days

Strictly a compliment: every time I've listened to "I've Loved These Days," by Billy Joel I feel he was channeling his admiration for Procol Harum. The lyrical meter, the melody, the arrangement -- all very Procol Harum. I could even "hear" Gary Brooker's voice. The song is definitely all Billy Joel -- but, I just feel that influential thread running through the tune & have often played it back to back with some of Procol Harum's finest ballads -- especially songs from 1973's Grand Hotel.
